With the limited-time $30,990 drive-away pricing for the MG4 now over, MG Motor Australia has released its December pricing for its range of electric vehicles and they’re still remarkably affordable.
The MG4 Excite 51, which was previously Australia’s cheapest EV at $30,990 drive-away, has returned to the top with a $32,990 drive-away offer now available until 31st December 2024. It’s joined by the MG4 Excite 64 with its larger battery ($34,990 drive-away), the MG ZS EV Essence ($36,990 drive-away), and the MG ZS EV Long Range ($42,990 drive-away).
Here’s a list of pricing for the MG electric vehicles in Australia until 31st December 2024:
- MG4 Excite 51- $32,990 drive-away
- MG4 Excite 64 – $34,990 drive-away
- ZS EV Essence – $36,990 drive-away
- ZS EV Long Range – $42,990 drive-away
“MG saw an incredible response to the pricing offers on the MG4 in October,” said MG Motor Australia’s Chief Commercial Officer, Giles Belcher. “Our dealerships across the country were able to help Australians switch to EV driving with the MG4. It has been recognised with more than 15 global awards. Across the MG4 range, buyers can own a fantastic car, backed by our industry-leading 10-year warranty and a five-star ANCAP safety rating.”

This $32,990 drive-away pricing for the MG4 Excite 51 makes it Australia’s cheapest EV and beats out the GWM ORA Standard Range, which is priced from $33,990 drive-away. Fundamentally speaking, the GWM ORA Standard Range is a lesser vehicle when it comes to pure stats. Despite costing more money it has less range, the same power and torque, and is less fun to drive because of its front-wheel-drive configuration. Still, we prefer the looks of the ORA, the interior is undoubtedly nicer, and it has a better battery.
Here’s how the MG4 Excite 51 and GWM ORA Standard Range stack up on the stat sheet:
MG4 Excite 51 | GWM ORA Standard Range | |
Price (AUD$) | $32,990 drive-away | $33,990 drive-away |
Battery size (kWh) | 51kWh lithium ferrophosphate (LFP) | 48kWh lithium-ion |
Range (WLTP) | 350km | 320km |
Power (kW) | 125kW | 126kW |
Torque (Nm) | 250Nm | 250Nm |
Max AC Charging | 6.6kW | 11kW |
Max DC Charging | 88kW | 80kW |
If you’re looking for more range from your electric vehicle, MG has also slashed the price of its MG4 Excite 64, which comes with a larger more advanced battery offering up to 450km of range on the WLTP testing regime and all of the modern features found in the base-model, including Apple CarPlay & Android Auto as standard, 50:50 weight distribution, rear-wheel drive, and a 5-Star ANCAP Safety rating. It has more punch too, with a 0-100km/h time of 7.2 seconds vs. 7.7 seconds for the 51kWh.
Then there are the discounts on the compact electric SUV, the ZS EV, which finds new drive-away pricing until December 31 2024. This includes:
- ZS EV Essence – $36,990 DAP
- ZS EV Long Range – $42,990 DAP
We’d steer you towards the ZS EV Long Range if you’re shopping for an electric SUV as the base model ZS EV Essence has a rather short range of just 320km (WLTP) vs. 440km (WLTP) for the ZS EV Long Range. The Long Range model also has 130kW of power vs. 115kW in the Essence.
“There are great value deals across the full MG4 range. These price offers finish at the end of the year and will never be repeated,” Mr Belcher continued. “Our network of nearly 100 dealers across Australia are only too happy to help customers have an amazing Christmas present of unwrapping a bow on their new MG4.”
Finally, it’s also worth mentioning that MG offers a capped-price service program, where under the Precise Price Servicing program, owners will have pricing locked in for the first seven years of maintenance through authorised dealers.
These prices must end on 31 December 2024, but if you’re after more information on any of the MG models listed in this article, check out the MGs website linked below.
