The McLaren x LAVOIE Series 1 Electric Scooter Ushers In A New Era Of E-mobility

British motor racing team McLaren is known for its supercar engineering and trademark attention to detail, both on and off the track. Now, the iconic papaya livery is hitting the streets on two wheels, but not exactly in the manner that you’d expect. McLaren Applied-owned subsidiary LAVOIE has just unveiled what it claims is a “new era of e-mobility” with the McLaren x LAVOIE Series 1 Electric Scooter. No fuel-injection or cockpit layout to find here, just premium automotive engineering heritage and high-end design.

The McLaren x LAVOIE Series 1 Electric Scooter

As you would expect from a release crafted by the engineers from McLaren Applied, the McLaren x LAVOIE Series 1 Electric Scooter is designed with an air of innovation, reliability and performance. It arrives wrapped in premium materials like automotive-grade magnesium, which aids in giving the Series 1 a lightweight, sleek, sturdy design. It is available in four colourways including Silence, Racing Green, Electric Blue and Sunset Orange.

Impressively, the new electric scooter does actually offer some contrast from others on the market. The Series 1 is designed with a long, wide deck and wider foot platform compared to standard releases, which McLaren claimed was in an effort to provide the safest, most comfortable riding position. It also features LAVOIE’s folding system Flowfold which was inspired by McLaren’s Formula 1 car suspensions. With this addition, you’re able to fold the electric scooter completely in a click or lock it securely in position with ultra-sturdy automotive latches. Even the handles are fully foldable.

The Series 1 is packed with meticulously researched ergonomic features like handlebars that return to a neutral position thanks to the angle of the stem which is high like a motorbike, giving you automotive-like steering. Another ergonomic feature is the Series 1’s touch control system. The left-hand controls allow you to sound the horn, activate front and rear lights as well as use the indicators. While the right-hand controls allow you to turn power on and off, switch riding modes and connect to the app.

The McLaren x LAVOIE Series 1 Electric Scooter’s lighting system has also been refined, with the designers incorporating a waterproof halo, rear brakes and LED extension. The Series 1 has its own customised motor delivering 500W of power and a peak output of 800W which can reach top speeds of over 40km/h. It has three power modes, Mode 1 is a slower eco option, Mode 2 is an efficient cruise option and Mode 3 goes full throttle. Perhaps most impressive of all, the Lavoie 250W charger works fast, giving a full battery charge in less than three hours.

As far as electric vehicles go, a scooter isn’t exactly high on the luxury hound’s list, but the new McLaren x LAVOIE Series 1 certainly proposes an enticing prospect. A premium design-build coupled with the heritage of one of motorsport’s best-loved teams in it’s back pocket, the scooter has a lot going for it. At least this is one McLaren you might actually be able to buy.
