You may have heard some motorcycles being referred to as “crotch rockets,” but term isn’t a joke when you’re talking about the TMC Dumont Aircraft Engine-Powered Motorcycle. Designed by retired F1 driver Tarso Marquez, the concept motorcycle uses a 300 horsepower Rolls-Royce helicopter engine—this thing was actually meant to fly. But then, what would you expect from a former F1 driver. You know that average or even above average speed wouldn’t be sufficient. No, you need extraordinary speed.
As a concept, the looks of this bike are beyond anything you could imagine. The bike sits on two gigantic 36 inch hubless wheels, making it look like it comes straight out of the digital world of Tron. It’s a little difficult just looking at the bike to know which is the front and which is the back, and where exactly you’re supposed to sit. The bike rides super low to the road, and the length is intimidating. Of course, the biggest contributor to that length is the engine. The design is unique, but also inspiring. Enough so that it won best in show at this year’s Daytona Bike Week.
While the bike is only a concept, and it looks like it was pulled straight from the pages of a post-apocalyptic comic book, if you’re looking for sheer speed, this bike comes out on top. Hopefully it heralds a new breed of ultra-fast “crotch rockets.”
