When Kenyan long-distance runner Sabastian Sawe broke away from the pack 90 minutes into the London Marathon and took a commanding lead into the final stages, he did so in the newly unveiled adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2.
With a finishing time of 2:02:27, he would go on to win the 2025 London Marathon and mark his latest success after an impressive win on the East Coast of Spain in 2024. However, next to him was Nike athlete Jacob Kiplimo, who was wearing another super shoe, the soon-to-be-revealed Nike Alphafly 4. Third-place finisher, Alexander Mutiso Munyao, crossed the line in 2:04:20 while wearing the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, and not only did he secure himself an impressive result, but he secured a victory for adidas with two of the top three finishers on the podium.
When Eliud Kipchoge set the unofficial marathon record with a sub-two-hour marathon on 12 October 2019 (1:59:40:2) in the Nike Alphafly Next%, it set a new benchmark that adidas and Nike have been obsessed with reaching. Brands like HOKA and On might dominate the line-up at your local run club, but Nike and adidas have been fighting it out at the world’s top marathons for years now to achieve a sub-two-hour marathon with “legal” shoes.
Kipchoge’s record-setting teammate, Kelvin Kiptum, was expected to do it before he passed away in a car accident in February 2024. He got remarkably close when he won the Chicago Marathon and set a new marathon record in 2:00:35 wearing the Nike Alphafly 3.
More recently, adidas’ Tigist Assefa set a new women’s-only world record at the 2025 London marathon with a time of 2:15:50—wearing the previous-generation Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. The race is on to find the fastest shoes in the world, and today, we want to focus on the London Marathon-winning Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2.

The fastest and lightest adidas running shoe ever made, the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 is the flagship sneaker from the three stripes and is priced accordingly at AUD$750 (USD$500/€500).
Now in its second iteration, the “2” model update adds a new midsole that packs 3mm more LIGHTSTRIKE PRO EVO foam in the forefoot. This nearly 10% increase in forefoot stack height compared to its predecessor, and a 5% increase in energy is returned to the runner as a result. Like the Evo 1, the forefoot rocker is placed at 60% of the length of the shoe.
“The design process for this shoe was a challenging but ultimately rewarding pursuit that started with simply looking at how we can make the fastest shoe we’ve ever created, even faster – all whilst keeping the weight consistent,” said Patrick Nava, VP Product, Running & Credibility Sports at adidas Running on the release of the shoe. “Working alongside our elite athletes like former world record holder Yomif Kejelcha, we’ve developed a shoe that delivers more energy return and a more efficient running economy with no compromise on agility.”
The previous-generation Evo 1 was 40% lighter than any race shoe adidas had created, and the Adios Pro Evo 2 weighs the same as at just 138 grams. This is particularly impressive considering they’ve added more foam in the forefoot, and it still comfortably beats the Nike Alphafly 3 (218g) and game-changing Nike Alphafly Next% (210g).

Design-wise, the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 takes an evolutionary approach with a minimalistic silver finish and signature three red stripes down the lateral and medial sides of the shoe. Details are kept to a minimum to keep the weight of teh shoe down, but you can make out key adidas script on the midsole, tongue, and heel counter where the shoes name is displayed.
If you want to get your hands on the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, they’ll be released in highly limited numbers on Thursday, May 1st at 10:00 am AEST at adidas.com.au priced at AUD$750.
