High-end speaker brand Bowers & Wilkins has announced PX – its first noise-cancelling wireless headphones which respond intelligently to your behaviour for a seamlessly intuitive listening experience. In classic Bowers & Wilkins fashion, they also deliver best-in-class sound quality.
For a more convincing soundstage, PX’s angled design and drive units are derived from Bowers & Wilkins’ quality P9 Signature leather headphones. The refined active noise cancelling function provides optimum isolation without ‘crushing’ the music, a process that took thousands of hours of development and testing. The headphones also use the latest aptX HD Bluetooth technology for 24-bit audio resolution that reproduces the best possible sound from all sources.
PX has three adaptive noise cancelling modes, which you can select by downloading a custom B&W app. ‘City’ allows traffic noise through so you can cross roads safely. ‘Office’ allows voices so you can hear colleagues when they talk to you. ‘Flight’ completely cancels ambient engine noise.
PX is also B&W’s first smart headphone, with sensors that allow listeners to control music in a way that feels intuitive. Pick them up, and the headphones will switch on immediately and automatically resume playing your music. Put them down, and they return to standby mode. Lift an ear cup to talk, or hang them around your neck, and PX will pause the music, resuming playback when you’re ready to listen. The class-leading battery provides 22 hours of playback in wireless noise cancellation mode or 33 hours in wired noise cancellation mode.
“We’ve created not just the best sounding noise cancelling headphones you’ve ever heard, but headphones that are so intelligently designed, and so responsive, that you might forget you’re wearing them at all,” said Alexander Van Der Heijden, Bowers & Wilkins GM Headphones.
Another signifier of the Bowers & Wilkins brand is its high-quality materials that offer a distinctive contemporary look. The headphones feature ergonomically designed elliptical ear cushions for superior comfort and the best possible acoustic seal, plus a soft leather headband and a robust ballistic nylon ear cup exterior. PX is not only the most advanced ANC wireless headphones, it’s also the most luxurious.
Bowers & Wilkins PX headphones will be available in a Space Grey or Soft Gold etched-aluminium finish. PX has a retail price of $549.95 and launches in October. This huge announcement comes just two weeks after B&W detailed its all-new 700 home loudspeakers that are available for a lower price point than ever before.
