Batman’s Secret Lair Comes to Life with LEGO’s New ‘Batcave Shadow Box’ Set

LEGO’s newly unveiled Batman building set serves as the ultimate playground for the Caped Crusader and his merry band of brick-built buddies. The Danish toymaker recently debuted the newest addition to the LEGO Batman Collection, dubbed the Batman Returns Batcave Shadowbox Set which draws inspiration from the 1992 Tim Burton-directed classic flick ‘Batman Returns.’ Coming in at roughly 4,000 pieces (3981 to be precise) and measuring almost 12 inches tall and over 20 inches long, this new Batcave set gives a brick-tastic makeover to one of the coolest Batman locations and is the largest Lego Batman set to date.

Built with adult collectors in mind, this new LEGO Batcave Shadow Box set is made in collaboration with Warner Bros. and is a highly detailed set that combines display pieces with the iconography Batman fans love. When assembled, the set builds into a shadow box that’s an intricately crafted cutout of the famous Batman emblem. The Bat symbol-shaped shadow box provides a stunning and breathtaking peek into the extraordinary headquarters of the world’s greatest superhero. At the heart of this remarkable set are Batman himself and the meticulously designed Batmobile, which pays homage to the legendary Burton movies.

The diorama unfurls to reveal a meticulously crafted Batcave, teeming with detailed display pieces. You can go ahead and rearrange the furniture or crack open the vault that slides open elegantly to the side. The vault contains a treasure trove of Batarangs, grapnel guns, and other high-tech gizmos that allow Bruce Wayne to tackle Gotham’s criminal underworld. But the fun doesn’t stop there. Bruce can even use the Batcave’s advanced computer to keep tabs on all the activities in and around Gotham and thanks to Lego’s ingenious design, you can customise what’s being showcased on the screen.

The ever-iconic Batsuit also gets special treatment here and can be concealed behind a drawbridge-style door that effortlessly rises and descends on chains. To add to the fun, there’s a LEGO light brick that casts a luminous glow from above, illuminating the Batsuit in all its glory. The LEGO Batman Returns Batcave Shadow Box’s Batmobile doesn’t compromise on functionality either. It features a minifigure-scale cockpit, tailor-made for our tiny hero, complete with a flame-throwing jet engine exhaust. If that wasn’t cool enough, a pair of machine guns emerge on either side of the cockpit to eliminate any and all obstacles that get in the way of our superhero and his ride.

This incredible set comes packed with an ensemble of seven characters, including Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman, Danny DeVito’s devious Penguin, the enigmatic Bruce Wayne himself, Alfred Pennyworth, and of course, Wayne in his classic Tim Burton-era Batsuit, a second alternative Batsuit, as well as Max Shreck. So if ready to unleash your inner Dark Knight, then you can get LEGO’s Batman Returns Batcave Shadow Box for AUD $599.99, when it launches on June 5 for Lego VIP members. For everyone else, the set will be available starting June 8.
