Man of Many’s Staff Favourites – 18 February 2023

Hot damn, the weeks are flying by. With February more than halfway done already, the end of summer is creeping just around the corner, but there is one sizzling event set to land before then. WorldPride has officially kicked off, with the annual celebration of all things inclusive taking place down under. Over the next few weeks, there will be a swathe of tremendous events and activations to enjoy in Sydney and to get you in the mood, we’re serving up our own celebratory round-up. Here’s Man of Many’s Staff Favourites for this week.

Reflections Holiday Parks Tiny Homes

Nick Hall – Editor-in-Chief

As a bit of a minimalist, I’ve always been a big fan of tiny homes. There’s something particularly exciting to me about a small-format property that you can pick up and take anywhere, not to mention I’m a sucker for a well-designed space. This week, I stumbled across the new set of tiny homes from Aussie venue operator Reflections Holiday Parks and I’m already daydreaming about my next trip. The brand has unveiled a bunch of new spaces across Byron Bay, Jimmy’s Beach, Moonee Beach, and Ferry Reserve, all complete with a chic little setup and a serious small footprint design.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – tiny homes rarely embody boutique luxury, but this one is a little different. Despite their size, each home has a lounge area, kitchenette with a microwave oven, cooktop and dishwasher, ensuite,  bedroom with a double or queen bed, and of course, a TV. Not that you’ll need it. These locations have been strategically dropped in some of the country’s most pristine regions, providing an unimpeded view of nature, ideal for a little rest and respite. I hadn’t had a chance to check them out just yet, but I’ve got my eyes firmly on the Jimmy’s Beach spot!

Bellroy Key Cover Plus

Scott Purcell – Co-Founder

The Bellroy Key Cover Plus is a great choice for those looking for a stylish and organized way to carry their keys. I love the sleek design and magnetic closure, which helps keep the keys together without the need for bulky clips or latches. The leather loop at the bottom is perfect for attaching a car key or fob, making it easy to carry all your keys together in your pocket. I noticed that it’s not as stable as my previous key holder, but it still holds my keys securely. The slim design is great as it doesn’t add bulk to your pocket and it also keeps your keys protected. My personal experience is that switching to a key cover like this will change your life. No more scratching your phone or hearing the jingling of keys in your pocket. It just makes you feel more organized and put together. Overall, the Bellroy Key Cover Plus is a great choice for anyone looking to streamline their key-carrying setup.

Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Revival A384

Frank Arthur – Co-Founder

The Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Revival A384 (which is quite a mouthful, so I’ll just refer to it as the Revival A384 from now on) has been on my wrist for three weeks and I’m absolutely loving it. It’s a watch with historical significance, a distinct look and an impressive level of quality and precision.

The Revival A384 is a faithful reproduction of Zenith’s groundbreaking 1969 release the ‘El Primero’, which was (contentiously) the world’s first automatic chronograph watch. The Revival A384 replicates the original El Primero high-frequency movement, and without getting too technical, this was a huge feat of watchmaking back in 1969. Recognising Zentih’s watchmaking chops, even Rolex used Zenith chronograph movements in their Daytona from 1988 right up until the year 2000.

From an aesthetic perspective, the overall look of the watch is clean, understated and slightly quirky. The tonneau-shaped shaped case features gentle curves and contrasting geometric faces with brushed steel surface finishes paired with mirror-polished edges. The 37mm case size is perfect for my dainty wrist and the panda dial is clean, legible and well-balanced. One of the more polarising elements of the design is a feature that I love, which is the ladder-style bracelet mimicking the Gay Frères design synonymous with the El Primero of old. And to tie the form and function together the Revival A384 sports a display caseback allowing me to visually admire the beautifully-finished chronograph movement housed within.

Squealing Pig Pride Labels

Denise Barnes – Head of Branded Content

With Sydney WorldPride 2023 celebrations well and truly underway all over our beautiful city, it’s so great to see so many people and brands getting behind it and showing support for the LGBQTIA+ community. With rosé being my summer drink of choice, I particularly love the Squealing Pig Pride Labels. The brand is known to be inclusive and cheeky and this is no different – just zoom in on the photo to read the rhymes on the labels. There are 9 different labels, each being an ode to its respective community – lesbian, bisexual, gay, pansexual, asexual, ally, non-binary, transgender, and intersex. These Squealing Pig Pride labels will be available nationally and will replace existing Squealing Pig Rosé bottles until the end of March. Cheers to Pride, cheers to diversity!

Meat March Festival, NOLA Smokehouse

John Guanzon – Head of Social

Let’s be real. By mid-February, any New Year’s shredding resolutions made last month are likely a distant memory, making March the perfect time to indulge in some of Australia’s finest, sustainably-sourced smoke meat. Sydney’s premier smokehouse and bar, NOLA is set to host a month-long smoked meat festival, called Meat March, showcasing Portoro beef from the Southern Riverina area of New South Wales. I was lucky enough to preview each of the unique smoked meat specials on offer every day in March and can confirm, I was fed very well. The March special menu includes Smoked Taco Tuesdays, Wagyu Wednesdays with beef tartare, and my personal favourite…Tomahawk Thursdays; where 1.3kg tomahawk steaks are wrapped in Jack Daniel’s-soaked muslin cloths, and soaked and aged for 60 days. There’s also 300g on-the-bone Portoro sirloin with fries, and in-house ground wagyu beef burgers available every day of the week. Mouth watering yet? You might want to check your calendar in March and clear it because you’ll be busy every day eating.

Meat March will run from Wednesday, March 1st to Friday 31 st March, with walk-in spots available and bookings encouraged.

Kia EV6 GT

Rob Edwards – Branded Content Writer

I recently had the good fortune of taking Kia’s EV6 GT for a spin around Melbourne’s Sandown Raceway and let me tell you that thing is quick. Really quick. The kind of quick that makes you involuntarily let out an expletive as soon as you put the accelerator down. And it’s pretty too. Kia has been on an upward trajectory for some time now, but this new electric vehicle has seen the South Korean firm up its game in pretty much every way. While it’s not exactly cheap at $99,590, it can smoke cars that cost multiple times its asking price, and at the end of the day isn’t that what matters most?

Vengaboys 25th Anniversary Tour

Sam Mangioni – Journalist – Entertainment, Culture & Lifestyle

When the idea of going to the Vengaboys concert was presented to me, I have to admit, I wasn’t exactly itching to go. While I’m all for some nostalgic throwback tunes, I wasn’t sure if I was ready to fully don my rainbow cowboy hat and braces look (although I do love to shine). However, as soon as the music hit my soul, I couldn’t help but start tapping my old dancing feet and gyrating like a malfunctioning robot.
In case there was any doubt, the Dutch divas still know how to put on a show. While the classics never fail to raise the roof, one of my favourite aspects of the concert was how they remixed classic hits from legends such as Bon Jovi, Van Halen, and even Queen. It was like taking a trip down memory lane, but with a fresh twist that had me grooving like it was 1999.

If you’re considering jumping on the party bus and attending the Australian 25th Anniversary Tour, which still has a few stops left in Wollongong, Adelaide, and Perth, I strongly recommend it. Trust me, it’s a ride you won’t regret unless you’re counting the next-day soreness and the questionable dance moves that may have been caught on camera.

Claudette Sampang – Sales Executive

Valentine’s Day came with lots of surprises from my partner, such as a bouquet and a luxurious dinner at Sydney’s first kaiseki restaurant, Oborozuki. Located in Circular Quay, you could enjoy the beautiful views of the iconic Sydney Harbour while you’re served a multi-course meal of traditional Japanese dishes. Running in a sequence of cold to hot dishes, the chef’s creativity shone as they amplified the flavours of their premium ingredients sourced from across the globe. My favourite meals were their seasonal sashimi that shone like a case of jewels and their Kobe A5 wagyu, which I still dream about days later. Oborozuki is an amazing place to try out a new dining experience for you and maybe a special someone!

WhistlePig PiggyBack 100 Proof Bourbon

Jacob Osborn – Staff Writer

Following the success of their popular PiggyBack rye, Vermont-based WhistlePig Distillery has just released a premium bourbon whiskey. Falling under the PiggyBack banner, it uses a mash bill that’s heavy on corn with a purposeful touch of rye. Six years inside Char #3 barrels results in a prime balance between nuance and approachability, with notes of caramel, corn, oak, vanilla, and a touch of honey. Whether served neat or in a spirit-forward cocktail, it makes for a classic sipper.

Speaking of deliciousness, WhistlePig has also partnered with Runamok for a barrel-aged maple syrup that’s sustainably sourced right there on the Vermont farm. It’s produced in small batches and ideal for everything from pancakes to ice cream to Old Fashioneds. Here’s a quick recipe for the brand’s Maple Old Fashioned: 1 ½ oz PiggyBack 100% Rye, ¼ oz WhistlePig Barrel Aged Maple Syrup, 3 Dashes Bitters, Fresh Orange Peel for Garnish. Yum.
