Game of thrones prequel aegon conquest

HBO is Planning Yet Another ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Series

HBO is milking the Game of Thrones franchise in any and every way possible. Following the chart-topping success of House of the Dragon, the ongoing Game of Thrones prequel TV series, HBO is reportedly readying another new Game of Thrones spin-off, centring around Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros.

Although the Westeros fantasy universe created by George R. R. Martin is vast and extensive, he has not yet written a specific book that depicts the story of Aegon’s Conquest. However, Martin did explore this topic in his 2018 book Fire & Blood, which could potentially serve as source material for the upcoming prequel series. It’s currently unclear whether Martin will be involved with the new series, as he’s already occupied with House of the Dragon Season 2. HBO plans to start searching for writers to lead the prequel project, as sources from Variety indicate that the project is still in its early stages.

If given a go-ahead, the series will take place roughly 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones and about 100 years before House of the Dragon, telling the tale of how Aegon and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys managed to conquer six of the seven kingdoms in Westeros (with the exception of Dorne) with the help of their army and their three dragons, Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar. As a consequence, Aegon I not only managed to uproot all the monarchies but also became the first king of Westeros, the first one to sit on the Iron Throne, and the founder of the Targaryen Dynasty.

However, a prequel series isn’t the only thing that HBO has on its radar. Even though nothing has been made official, higher-ups at HBO and Warner Bros. are thinking about green-lighting a feature film that will likely precede the rest of the series, going deep into how it all started. In December last year, Martin mentioned that he was “working on so many bloody things,” which included “several of the other successor shows that we’re developing with HBO.” He further said, “Some of those are moving faster than others, as is always the case with development. None have been greenlit yet, though we are hoping… maybe soon. A couple have been shelved, but I would not agree that they are dead.”
