Extraction 3

This year’s Netflix Tudum event kicked off with an absolute banger reveal as Chris Hemsworth, the dashing Australian heartthrob and lead actor of Netflix’s Extraction franchise along with director Sam Hargrave took the stage to make a thrilling revelation. The duo announced that Extraction 3 is already in development and will soon grace the streaming service. This exciting news comes hot on the heels of the recent release of Extraction 2, which is currently enjoying a phenomenal launch.

While addressing the massive crowd gathered in Sao Paulo and countless others who had tuned in via live streaming, Chris Hemsworth revealed a major secret, exclaiming, “Guess what? Between us, as friends, we’re already talking about Extraction 3.”

The franchise has proven to be quite a lucrative venture for both Netflix and producers Joe and Anthony Russo. The first film skyrocketed to become Netflix’s most-watched original film, accumulating a remarkable 99 million hours of watch time within just 28 days of its debut. Building on this triumph, the sequel has now claimed the title of the most-watched movie on Netflix in Australia. So it is hardly surprising that Netflix and the Russo brothers are eager to tell more stories and expand the universe.

The Archies

It’s time to step back in time to the swinging ’60s, as Netflix revealed the first sneak peek at The Archies, a coming-of-age musical that “reimagines the classic Archie Comics, transposing the gang to an Anglo-Indian hill station.” The latest footage offers a glimpse into the Indian adaptation of Riverdale, showcasing the lives of the beloved group of teenagers in the town—Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel, and Dilton. According to Netflix, The Archies will be presented from the perspective of the “unique” Anglo-Indian community, delving into themes of friendship, freedom, love, heartbreak, and rebellion. While no release date has been revealed, Netflix says that The Archies will debut sometime this year.

3 Body Problem

Netflix’s hotly anticipated 3 Body Problem finally has a trailer and it’s as twisted and dark as it gets. First announced in 2020, the upcoming mystery thriller series is being adapted from author Cixin Liu’s The Three-Body Problem novel and comes from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo. The series is set to explore humanity’s response to its gravest threat and the teaser trailer provides just a brief — but still incredibly impressive — glimpse at the impending doom. As per the official synopsis: “A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time to a group of brilliant scientists in the present day. As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.” 3 Body Problem will consist of eight hour-long episodes and is scheduled to hit Netflix in January 2024.

The Witcher: Season 3 New Footage

With Season 3 Vol. 1 of The Witcher just a couple of weeks out, Netflix has amped up the release with a gripping trailer that teases all the dangers that lie ahead for Cavill’s Gerald and company. We get to see Ciri single-handedly taking on a group of enemies and is of course joined later by Yennefer and Geralt. A big ol’ sword and magic fight ensures, featuring some slick sword slashing by Cavill. You can check out the first half of the season on June 29th.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

When it comes to the Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation, Netflix is still keeping its cards close to its chest. However, the streamer did give a mini first look at the upcoming live-action series, showcasing character images of its live-action series as well as title reveal footage of the four nations, namely the Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation and Air Nomads. As per Netflix, this “legendary story” that’s being reimagined in a live-action series will see Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as waterbender Katara, Ian Ousley as her brother, Sokka, and Dallas Liu as firebending royalty, Zuko.

Netflix is “using the same words that waterbender Katara spoke in the introduction for the original Nickelodeon animated series, which goes, “Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, can stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed, and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar: an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world.” While there’s still no release date, Netflix did announce that Avatar: The Last Airbender will hit the service in 2024.

Rebel Moon Featurette

Zack Snyder released a behind-the-scenes look at his upcoming film Rebel Moon, which is being split into two parts (with each getting its own Snyder cut). The first will release on Dec. 22, 2023 and the second is expected to follow soon after, although a release date has not yet been announced.
