Timothée Chalamet

Timothée Chalamet Will Serenade Us in the Upcoming Bob Dylan Biopic

Along with being a prolific actor, it turns out Timothée Chalamet has a knack for singing too. The Dune star will not only be portraying Bob Dylan in the upcoming biopic, A Complete Unknown, but also put his pipes on display, performing songs as the Nobel Prize–winning artist. During an interview with Collider at London’s recent Star Wars Celebration, James Mangold, the director of the upcoming film, confirmed the news. When asked if Timothée would be doing the singing, he responded with an, “Of course!” Is there anything this sexy young gun can’t do?

The upcoming Dylan biopic will be based on Elijah Wald’s 2015 novel Dylan Goes Electric, and see the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director leading the project with a screenplay written by Jay Cocks.Mangold revealed a few things about the film’s setting and even hinted at what the biopic aims to achieve. “It’s such an amazing time in American culture and the story of a young, 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with like two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years — first being embraced into the family of folk music in New York and then, of course, kind of outrunning them at a certain point as his star rises so beyond belief,” Mangold explained.

Mangold even went on to confirm that filming for the movie is likely to kick off sometime in August and that prominent music figures such as Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Joan Baez would all be a part of the film’s plot. He said, “It’s such an interesting true story and about such an interesting moment in the American scene different characters from Woody Guthrie to Bob Dylan, to Pete Seeger to Joan Baez, all have a role to play in this movie.”

However, the director remained tight-lipped surrounding the film’s plot. No actors besides Chalamet are currently linked to the Bob Dylan biopic and there’s no word on when the film will be hitting the big screens. Stay tuned for more information.
