Summer 2019 collection is Jones’ first for Dior, with many of his designs revisiting Dior’s original house icon – the bee. New York artist KAWS is responsible for the bee’s design which appears in XXL versions within the fashion house’s latest collection. KAWS reinterpreted the Dior signature, which is also seen throughout.
Jones drew inspiration from Christian Dior’s private life and creative output. The collection represents a dialogue between those two sides of his personality. Styles include the Toile De Jouy pattern, chosen from the original Dior boutique and decorated by Victor Grandpierre in 1947.
As for Dior’s temporary Sydney store, space evokes the set of the Summer 2019 men’s show and Kim Jones’s collection for Dior. Graphic lines reminiscent of architectural scaffolding create an informal and refined touch. Neon whites, raw concrete and the Dior logo, reworked by KAWS respond to Dior’s new urbanity approach to the Dior man as defined by Kim Jones. A giant bee figure plays host at the centre of the space.
The Sydney Dior pop-up store offering the Summer 2019 collection by Kim Jones is open from now until March 31 2019. You can see highlights from the collection below.
