Would You Rock the Balenciaga x Crocs Stiletto Clogs?

It’s called fashion, sweetie. Look it up. At its recent Clones collection showing, high-fashion house Balenciaga has peeled back the curtain on one of its most ridiculous collabs, and we’re all the better for it. Once again teaming up with every chef’s favourite footwear provider, the new Balenciaga x Crocs collection takes the rubber clog to new heights.

At the showing, Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia unveiled the new footwear by dressing models in Crocs rainboot styles and platform pool slides in green, grey and black. The styles came with an array of Crocs charms, otherwise know as Jibbitz in images like the Balenciaga logo, flowers, peace signs and stars. While the clogs were certainly eye-catching, they were nothing too out of the Demna playbook, at least until the Balenciaga x Crocs stiletto hit the runway.

“Balenciaga Crocs 2.0, the second collaboration between the two brands, sees the classic clog made into pumps, boots, and platformed pool slides,” the show notes read. “Trooper boots and derbies are thick-soled, square-toed, and angular on all sides. Runner sneakers, introduced in Winter 21, have a DIY, cut up aesthetic in the shape of a traditional running shoe.”

Adding an elevated look through the use of a striking black tube heel, the stiletto variation is hard to ignore. The clash of classic high-class design with modern casual materials is not uncommon, but Demna’s approach takes things to the extreme. Like two beasts fused together in unholy matrimony, the Balenciaga x Crocs stiletto is somehow familiar and foreign all at once. On one hand, the footwear maintains the iconic perforated and dot ribbed details we’ve come to recognise from Cros, but on the other, a heightened exaggerated sole segment that just feels…wrong.

Naturally, viewers were perplexed by the release, questioning whether the footwear was a real piece or just a case of fashion f*cking with us. Days on from the initial unveiling, we’re still not sure. At the moment, there is no official release info for Balenciaga’s Spring 2022 Crocs collaboration, but consider the first Balenciaga x Crocs collaboration retailed for USD$850 and sold out immediately, you can expect interest will be almost as high as these heels.
