On Monday night, the who's who of the much hyped Australian restaurant industry congregated at The Star's event centre in Sydney to countdown through the best 100 restaurants in the country. Hosted by food critic and culinary journalist power couple Terry Durack and Jill Dupleix, the night was a celebration of all things excellent in the current world of dining out in Oz, and a top opportunity for Australia's culinary wizards to swap their whites for blazers and slap each other on the back.\r\n\r\nKiller canap\u00e9s and bubbles flowed liberally all evening as guests eagerly anticipated the coveted top ten spots and finally, the number one, which was gleefully announced by Terry and Jill to a room of gaiety and salubrious applause.\r\n\r\nWhile Dan Hunter's posh rural Victorian dining room Brae took out the number one spot, the list was peppered with other worthy venues all the way throughout, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. The Australian Financial Review Top Restaurants differ from other publications' restaurant awards as they are voted upon by the top 500 chefs in the country, making members of the top 100 entirely selected by their peers, not food critics.\r\n\r\nWherever they placed on the list, the overall sense in the ballroom was one of inclusion and shared celebration, and another excuse to party for another year.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe AFR Top 100 Restaurants:\r\n\r\n \tBrae, Birregurra VIC\r\n \t\u00a0Attica, VIC\r\n \tEster, NSW\r\n \tSixpenny, NSW\r\n \tSepia, NSW\r\n \tFranklin, TAS\r\n \tTipo00, VIC\r\n \tEmbla, VIC\r\n \tAutomata, NSW\r\n \tRestaurant Hubert, NSW\r\n \tSaint Peter, NSW\r\n \tIgni, Geelong, VIC\r\n \tMomofuku Seiobo, NSW\r\n \tBennelong, NSW\r\n \tFlower Drum, VIC\r\n \tSupernormal.
