What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is an annual sale that marks the global tech giant’s anniversary. Starting in 2015 to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary as a company, the Amazon US store launched Amazon Prime Day. With a list of deals so long that it rivalled even Black Friday, the day quickly evolved into one of the internet’s biggest mid-year sales events where members of Amazon Prime could score a bunch of exclusive discounts on a wide range of items. What started as a short 24-hour sale has since grown to a massive two-day event for Aussies.

To be clear, Amazon Prime Day is an exclusive sale only available to their paying members. If you want to get access to the deals you’ll have to sign up as an Amazon Prime member before or during the event. A membership will cost you AUD$6.99 a month or AUD$59 a year, which isn’t that bad. But, if you haven’t signed up before theirs a handy 30-day free trial available that’ll let you get access to the deals plus a plethora of other perks like Prime Video, Prime Reading and Prime Gaming all without paying a cent.

“We know that Australians are looking for value right now and we are thrilled to offer Prime members bigger and better Prime Day deals this year,” Janet Menzies, country manager for Amazon Australia said. “Prime members will have exclusive access to incredible savings from big brands and small and medium local businesses, meaning there will be savings to be made no matter what you are looking for. Prime Day 2021 marked the biggest two days for small local businesses on Amazon.com.au at the time and we are excited to be putting them front and centre again through our Shop Local Businesses Store this year.”
