You Can Now Play UNO in Your BMW With Latest System Update

Picture yourself sitting at a charger, bored out of your mind, waiting patiently for your car to recharge so you can arrive at your destination with enough battery to get you to the coffee shop the next day. Few things threaten a relationship with you, your car, and your significant other more than sitting at an EV charger, but brands like BMW and Tesla are doing their part to make the most of these suffering situations.

Today, we’re looking at BMW Group because they’re bringing UNO to some models through a partnership with AirConsole. They’ve already brought games such as “Go Kart Go,” “Golazo,” “Music Guess,” and “Overcooked” to many of their electric vehicles. Still, today, “UNO” debuts in vehicles running the BMW Operating System 8.5 and an embedded personal eSIM in Australia.

Sadly, it’s unavailable in the BMW 2 Series Coupé, 3 Series, or 4 Series, which means those owners will have to talk to each other and make conversation.

Unlike Tesla, which uses the vehicle steering wheel and controls to operate the character on the screen, the BMW system works by pairing your smartphone, which acts as the controller. While the vehicle’s in park, you simply launch the AirConsole app through the operating system and scan a QR code to pair your phone to the display.

The benefit of using your phone instead of the car’s steering wheel is that you can connect multiple devices simultaneously, meaning multiple players and fewer complaints from those in the passenger seat. Games like UNO can support up to four devices, meaning fun for a whole car of people!

“We continue to increase the value of the overall digital experience for our customers,” said Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President of the BMW Group Development Connected Company and Technical Operations. “Our partners AirConsole and Mattel are helping make in-car gaming into a new social experience, and I am thrilled to offer a family-favourite game like UNO for this exciting innovation.”

Suppose you’re the lucky owner of a BMW running Operating System 8.5 and have fitted the car with an embedded personal eSIM in Australia. In that case, you can download UNO with an over-the-air (OTA) update right now. However, those with a BMW 2 Series Coupé, 3 Series or 4 Series will sadly miss out. May the best UNO’er win!
