The not-sneaker, sneaker trend wars are here. While every brand is essentially taking down a Mephisto Match by adding premium materials to their in-line models, the sneaker loafer (snoafer) trend is slowly cooling off, and we’re here for anything that blends comfort and formal style.

When it comes to high-end sneaker take-downs, the first blows were dealt by New Balance with the release of their Made in UK Allerdale, a shoe that combined the best of New Balance’s walking shoe heritage with new-age technology and heritage materials. Now it appears it’s adidas‘ turn as the brand has released the AUD$640 adidas Gazelle Indoor ‘Made In Italy’ in a lovely Dark Brown colourway.

Fit for the boardroom, front row at Paris Fashion Week, or your local specialty coffee shop, the brand also released in an all-over black colourway earlier this year alongside an AUD$500 Samba ‘Made In Italy’. We’re not sure which brand will win the not-sneaker, sneaker trend wars, but adidas has played their cards right with the Gazelle Indoor ‘Made In Italy’. Let’s take a closer look!

There’s something special about letting a shoe’s premium materials speak for themselves, and that’s what adidas is going for with the adidas Gazelle Indoor ‘Made In Italy’.

You’ll find premium Italian leather on the upper, a lace-up closure, debossed branding behind the three stripes, and a thick, golf-style rubber sole for comfort. The overall design is inspired by Italian dress shoes, but we love how the brand has given the suede T-toe cap an enlarged, defined look that lets everyone know it’s still a Gazelle when it’s tucked under your pant leg.

Speaking of which, we recommend wearing these Gazelles with a more formal outfit than you would a traditional sneaker. Think trousers and button-up shirts, and not cargo or painter pants. You could certainly dress them down with the right pair of pants, but they’re designed to be worn with a suit, cashmere sweater, and the like. Keep things semi-formal or formal and you’ll be on the right track!

If you want to pick up a pair of the adidas Gazelle Indoor ‘Made In Italy’, they’re available from END. right now for AUD$639.
