Don’t Judge Technics’ OTTAVA All-in-One Audio System on Size

Things not to underestimate based on their size: dynamite, Yoda, and Technics’ OTTAVA. Yes, the audio brand’s latest innovation may be small in size, but the OTTAVA f all-in-one home system really packs a punch. This little unit – actually there are two, but more on that in a minute – brings together all of your sound needs in a simple package that dishes out performance beyond expectations.

As mentioned, the OTTAVA f comes in two versions. The larger of the two, the SC-C70, comes with a CD player, stereo amps and preamps, a remote, and an FM radio tuner. You can also add streaming music thanks to its app (Tidal-capable). And you can connect to the OTTAVA f via analog, digital, network, and USB inputs.

The smaller SC-C50 has a similar offering, just minus the CD player. You’ll appreciate the significance of the name of this product. In music, “OTTAVA” means to play an octave above or below what is written on the sheet music while “f” means forte, or loud. With the OTTAVA f’s ability to balance its performance and its internal 2.1 channel speaker configuration, the system plays whatever you want and it does it well.

Sound is produced via the OTTAVA f’s two 80mm woofers and two 20mm dome tweeters. The sound is projected through an “acoustic lens” that helps to direct the sound. On the bottom of the unit, you’ll also find a 120mm subwoofer, which for the drivers, Technics turned to their proprietary JENO Engine digital amplifiers, making the OTTAVA f capable of a 30W output.

Size shouldn’t be a reason for judgment, but it is a consideration. For the OTTAVA f, you won’t have to worry about making a bunch of extra space for your audio system. The unit measures just 450mm wide by 280mm deep and 143mm high. The exterior features a brushed metal look, while on the inside the OTTAVA f is made of wood for the components to mount to and to provide structure.

On the top of the OTTAVA f, you’ll find the power button on one side with the touch controls for stop, play, pause, and track selection as well as the volume on the opposite. The top of the SC-C70 features the CD cover as well. Front and centre are where you’ll find the monochromatic OLED display. The OTTAVA f SC-C70 is priced at USD$999 while the SC-C50 is marked at USD$799.
