As drone technology steadily advances, it’s becoming more and more noticeable that they’re finding their place in the hands of everyday consumers. DJI, a well-known player in the consumer and civilian drone industry, recently launched the DJI Mini 4 Pro, which “redefines the boundaries of mini-camera drones.” The new Mini 4 Pro drone stands out as the first in the mini drone category to feature omnidirectional obstacle sensing and introduces several noteworthy improvements over its predecessor.

Coming in at just under 249 grams, the Mini 4 Pro is geared towards convenient portability. Its lightweight and compact design not only makes it easy to carry but also “aligns with drone regulations in a majority of countries and regions, granting you the freedom to take flight with almost no limitations.”
The drone also packs some pretty impressive upgrades under the hood, especially in the imaging department. It features a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, a powerful Image-Processing Platform, and dual native ISO fusion for cutting-edge imaging. A noticeable upgrade from the DJI Mini 3 is 4K60fps and 10-bit D-Log M recording, “granting access to more than a billion colours.”
With an f/1.7 aperture, it can take 48MP images and record 4K/60fps HDR video. You also get the added bonus of Slo-Mo at 4K/100fps, which improves dynamic range, preserving detail in both bright highlights and deep shadows. Furthermore, the DJI Mini 4 Pro also comes equipped with a large 2.4μm pixels sensor and a new and advanced noise reduction algorithm in Night Shots video mode, ensuring clear and cleaner footage even in challenging low-light conditions.
The drone even has the option to switch between 12MP or 48MP stills based on your needs and offers a 60° wide-angle tilt, supporting digital video zoom of up to 2 for photos, and up to 4x for videos.
Yet, the drone’s standout feature is its brand-new omnidirectional obstacle sensing, which ensures the DJI Mini 4 Pro’s safety in any environment. Equipped with four wide-angle vision sensors and downward vision sensors, it can detect obstacles from all directions. Additionally, the Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS) adds an extra layer of safety, allowing automatic braking and obstacle avoidance during flight.
Like the DJI Mini 3 Series, it also has True Vertical Shooting (which mechanically rotates the camera gimbal a full 90 degrees) and the same Intelligent Flight Battery Plus to power it. This provides a max flight time of an impressive 45 minutes. It also shares the same Two-Way Charging Hub from the 3 Series, capable of charging the remote and three batteries simultaneously. Moreover, this hub can power various devices, including remote controllers, smartphones, and other electronics.
All in all, the DJI Mini 4 Pro seems to be a great improvement and builds on its predecessor’s success. It’s still compact as ever and delivers professional-grade video and photography without compromising too much on quality (at least for the price).
