  • Virgin Australia is opening a Velocity 1-Point Reward store in Sydney.
  • Velocity members will be able to redeem premium products from brands like Dyson, Bose, and Prada for just one Velocity Frequent Flyer point.
  • The pop-up store opens to the public at 8am on Friday, 22 August and is located at 253 Pitt Street, Sydney 2000.

Two years after its Velocity 1-Point Reward store sent Melbourne shoppers into overdrive, Virgin Australia is reviving its most ambitious sales event. A new pop-up located on Pitt Street in Sydney’s CBD will open its doors at 8am on Friday, 22 August, offering Velocity Frequent Flyer members the opportunity to redeem premium products from brands like Dyson, Bose, and Prada for just one point.

The Pitt Street activation marks the first time the airline’s 1-Point Reward store has arrived in Sydney, following the breakout success of the 2023 Melbourne edition. That storefront, located on the iconic Chapel Street, saw Velocity members nab coveted items like Dyson hairdryers, Apple AirPods, Weber BBQs, and more, ahead of an online nationwide sales event. Additionally, the first 100 members through the store were offered the choice of either an aforementioned item or a one-way Economy flight to a host of Virgin Australia’s most popular holiday destinations.

According to the travel business, the 2023 event was so successful that additional security was required at the venue, as prospective shoppers lined up overnight to get their hands on a bargain. This time around, Virgin is upping the stakes, taking the 1-Point Rewards Store on the road.

The first event is set to launch in Sydney on Friday, 22 August, followed by activations in Brisbane and Melbourne, with dates yet to be confirmed. Products such as Dyson Airwraps, Bose QuietComfort headphones, and designer fragrances are all up for grabs as part of the activation; however, the airline has not disclosed quantities of each product. Velocity Frequent Flyer members looking to score a bargain will need to get in early to secure their spot.

Each event runs for one day only, and members are limited to just one redeemable item per location. Beyond the rewards, the Velocity 1-Point Reward store also offers claw machines, hidden surprises and mystery prize carousels for attendees to work their way through. Better yet, on-ground Virgin staff will be there to help guests maximise their points, offering advice on how to earn instantly through partners such as Flybuys, DiDi, DoorDash and AGL.

The event follows recent data commissioned by Virgin Australia, which revealed that 59 per cent of loyalty members want more achievable perks. With competition heating up and consumers battling the rising cost of living, greater access to membership rewards could prove to be an invaluable selling point

“Velocity is all about getting our members to rewards faster and the 1 Point Rewards Store puts the spotlight on that,” Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO Nick Rohrlach told Sky News. “With Velocity, earning Points is easy and fast. You don’t need to spend big or wait long for your next reward – spending daily on things like your morning coffee, a tank of fuel, weekly grocery shop or mobile phone bill could get you there in no time.”

The rewards are available until stocks last, and members must have at least one point in their Velocity account and the app downloaded to participate. The Virgin Australia Velocity 1-Point Reward store opens to the public at 8am on Friday, 22 August and is located at 253 Pitt Street, Sydney 2000.
