Charlize Theron Teams Up with Daniel Craig for Apple’s Heist Thriller ‘Two For The Money’

Strengthening its roster of original and exclusive content, Apple Original Films has added yet another high-profile title to its slate with Two For The Money, an upcoming heist thriller starring Oscar-winning Charlize Theron and former Bond actor Daniel Craig. Justin Lin (best known for his work on the Fast franchise and Community among others) is set to direct the film, based on an original idea co-developed by Lin and his Fast X collaborator, Dan Mazeau. Per Variety, the movie will feature Theron and Craig as career thieves, “whose relationship spans the course of three big jobs.”

Two For The Money will be a joint production between Lin’s Perfect Storm Entertainment and Theron’s Denver & Delilah, with Apple Studios serving as the distributor. Theron produces through Denver & Delilah, Lin produces through Perfect Storm, and Jeff Kirschebaum and Joe Roth produce for RK Films. Beyond this, details about the project’s script, cast, and release date are being kept under tight wraps.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, co-creators Lin and Mazeau developed the project idea while working on Fast X. They then pitched the idea to Theron, who herself was part of the expansive Fast cast. “The actress fell for the story’s Cary Grant-Rosalind Russell snappy rapport vibe and suggested that Craig be her guy Friday,” writes THR. With the upcoming Two for the Money, Apple seems to be doubling down on its strategy of throwing money at big-name projects. A formula that has definitely been successful, with the recent Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon generating critical acclaim.

The studio also has an upcoming spy thriller Argylle, set to release on February 2, 2024, which boasts its own set of Hollywood A-listers, including Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson. Both Theron and Craig have packed schedules for next year. Theron is slated to reprise her role in The Old Guard 2, Netflix’s sequel to its hit 2020 superhero film, expected to release sometime next year. On the other hand, Bond actor Craig will return as detective Benoit Blanc in the third instalment of the Knives Out franchise. Additionally, he will star opposite Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, and Drew Starkey in Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of William S. Burrough’s Queer
