Head Back to Rydell High with First ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ Teaser

Make way for the pretty pink ladies. Paramount+ has debuted the first teaser for Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, a new prequel TV series to the 1978 movie musical rom-com Grease. The new TV series will take us back to the hallways of Rydell High School and is being billed as an origin story of the Pink Ladies, showcasing how the original members of the gang clawed their way to the top.

Taking place in 1954 (four years before the events of the original movie), Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies will consist of 10 episodes and is set to hit the streaming platform on April 6, almost in time for those perfect summer nights. The new teaser trailer for the upcoming prequel series takes fans back to a time when the gang wasn’t yet developed, allowing us to “witness the rise of the original girl gang”.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies features a brand new cast as well as characters, with Nancy (portrayed by Tricia Fukuhara), Jane (portrayed by Marisa Davila), Olivia (portrayed by Cheyenne Wells), and Cynthia (portrayed by Ari Notartomaso) constituting the original gang of Pink Ladies.

The under-one-minute teaser opens up with a shot of Rydell High School, following which, we hear Jackie Hoffman’s voice, who plays the role of Assistant Principal McGee, providing the girls with some crucial life advice about a girl’s reputation. “A girl’s reputation is all that she has,” advises Principal McGee. However, our Pink Ladies seem to think otherwise. “Maybe sometimes you gotta be bad to do good,” says Jane in the trailer, making it clear that this new version of Pink Ladies isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty if the time calls for it.

The teaser also treats us with brief shots of various dance performances, sizzling make-out sessions in cars, as well as shots of now-iconic T-Birds. Even original songs by pop songwriter Justin Tranter are included in this new TV musical series, which certainly will bring all the nostalgia back.

The synopsis for Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies reads, “In 1954 before rock ‘n’ roll ruled, before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school, four fed-up outcasts dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.” Besides our Pink Ladies, other cast includes Shanel Bailey as Hazel, Madison Thompson as Susan, Johnathan Nieves as Richie, Jason Schmidt as Buddy and Maxwell Whittington-Cooper as Wally.
