For those who didn’t play the game, The Last of Us is set in the post-apocalyptic United States. It follows the story of survivors Joel and Ellie as they work together to survive their journey across the country to find a cure for the modern fungal plague that has nearly wiped out the entire human race. Think The Walking Dead vibes, but the infected are more horrifically mutated.

Before fans freak out, it’s important to note The Last of Us should remain loyal to its source material as Neil Druckmann, the creative director of the original 2013 game and its 2020 sequel, served on the TV series as a writer. The show has been created by Chernobyl filmmaker and screenwriter Craig Mazin and stars Game of Thrones OGs Pedro Pascal as Joe Miller and Bella Ramsey as Ellie Williams.

While HBO has not announced an official release date, the show is set to premiere in the first half of 2023.
