Widely regarded as one of music’s greatest guitarists, White is responsible for pioneering the garage rock revival of the early 2000s. Along with ex-wife Meg White, Jack White formed The White Stripes in 1997 in Detroit, releasing a string of singles and two studio albums to relative success. The band’s third release, however, would skyrocket them into global fame.
White Blood Cells, a 16-track explosion of raw sound typified the band’s stripped-back, chaotic approach and received both critical and commercial success. It peaked at number 61 on the Billboard 200 and became their first album to sell over a million copies, spurring a widespread indie rock revival. From there, tracks such as Seven Nation Army, Icky Thump and Hotel Yorba went on to become cult classics for the band until they disbanded in 2011.
A prolific composer, Jack White also founded the award-winning rock band The Raconteurs (who went under the name The Saboteurs in Australia for legal reasons) and supergroup the Dead Weather before launching a solo career in 2012. White’s debut self-produced solo album, Blunderbuss, was released on April 24, 2012 and immediately landed at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Subsequent releases Lazaretto, Boarding House Reach, Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive achieved similar success, with 2024 marking the artist’s first new release in two years.
White’s sixth solo album, No Name, was released earlier this year through Third Man Records, the independent label White owns alongside Ben Blackwell and Ben Swank. Whilst only being out for a matter of weeks, the LP has already received critical acclaim, with Exclaims!‘s Alex Hudson noting White’s “sharp return to blues”, championing the same raw simplicity that made The White Stripes so successful.
The Jack White 2024 Australian tour will mark the first time local audiences will have the opportunity to hear new tracks from No Name live. The iconic musician was last in Australia in 2022 for the Adelaide Harvest Rock Festival and, prior to that, performed a final tour with his band The Raconteurs in 2022.
