A familiar partner and collaborator for New Balance, JJJJound is back with the famous creams and neutral greens for the release of the latest iteration of the 990 sneakers, this time working on a v3. It was this model that first marked visual departure from now-classic features of the v1 and v2, with the introduction of a breathable, mesh upper and a more spacious overlay design. All we know is this is probably our personal favourite design, and through the JJJJound lens, it’s a sneaker of the year contender.
JJJJound x New Balance 990v3 Olive Release Information
The first update to the original New Balance 990 (first introduced in 1982), didn’t occur until 1998. It took fourteen years before 2012’s 990v3 set a new standard for running shoe design with a sneaker that is just as capable jogging the footpaths of New York City as it is sitting next to the runway at fashion week. Combining ABZORB and ENCAP cushioning established a streamlined, modern look and feel for the now legendary silhouette.
JJJJound was originally launched in 2006 as a digital mood board exploring the recurring patterns in design. Over the next decade, JJJJound evolved beyond the realm of the Internet and was made tangible by collaborations with artists and brands that share their strong design ethics. In its latest collaboration with New Balance, JJJJound employs a tonal, olive colourway to the subtle textural nature of a nubuck overlaid mesh upper. Cream hits on the laces and midsole are in contrast to the black outsole and ‘N’ logo on the medial and lateral side of the shoes. JJJJound logos are only found on the heel and insole to keep branding at a minimum.
With suggested retail pricing of $380 AUD, the new collaboration is available right now on newbalance.com.au.
