Welcome to Sneaker News #15. Nike has two big collaborations coming up this week with both Off-White and Union LA offering their takes on two of the brand’s classic shoes. adidas, meanwhile, is expanding Damian Lillard’s fast-growing line with an eye-catching shoe. There’s also one of the wildest colourways of the Reebok Instapump Fury yet coming up. That plus new releases from Asics x Vivienne Westwood and Yeezy below.
Nike Rubber Dunk x Off-White University Blue
The Nike and Off-White collaboration has given birth to some of the most hyped shoes of the last decade. The partnership continues with Virgil Abloh’s brand taking on the Dunk – one of 2020’s landmark shoes. As per usual, Abloh pushes the silhouette even further, incorporating elements of the Air Pegasus line and bringing an industrial feel to the skate shoe. The metallic silver and blue shoe features the iconic Off-White cable tie. It’s set to drop on 1st October at 6am on Nike and at select retailers and you better believe it will sell out instantly.
Nike x Union LA
Nike and LA boutique Union LA have teamed up once again to offer a trio of shoes including the Jordan Delta Mid and the Zoom ‘92. It’s the Air Jordan 4 that’s likely to excite people the most though. Inspired by the culture that surrounded Jordan’s reign in the late ‘80s and ‘90s, it’s a nostalgia-inducing shoe. Chriss Gibbs, the owner of Union LA, wanted to mix suede and mesh, paying homage to OG sneakers of the ‘80s. Somehow Gibbs has achieved the difficult task of making a show that’s both vintage and with an eye on the future.
adidas Dame 7
Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard continues to expand his line with adidas. The seventh edition may be one of the most adventurous yet. Arriving in six different colours including neon orange and green, it features a patterned outsole and a graphic textile upper. The ultralight midsole ensures you’ll stay quick on your feet. It will drop on Adidas at September 30th at 2pm GMT (midnight AEST).
Jordan Air Cadence SP x Fragment Design
Here’s one for those that like to cop the hard-to-gets. Iconic Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara and owner of label Fragment Design unleash his latest shoe for the Jordan brand. Sporting a grayscale, muted colourway, it’s a new silhouette sharing some similarities with the Delta SP. It’s a mesh and suede-combining shoe with plenty of cushioning and a perforated foam tongue. If you want to get your hands on it, you’ll have to enter the raffle over at Supply Store.
Asics Gel-Kayano 26 x Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood looks back to the ‘80s for her spin on the Asics Gel-Kayano 26. The silhouette takes cues from Westwood’s bag and sacks shoes that were part of her 1983 Buffalo collection. The Asics running shoe gets a flashy update for those that prefer both fashion and function. The open mesh net that ties at the tongue is the shoe’s most eye-catching feature but the shiny mid-sole also demands your attention. Get it in two colourways, white and black, at Up There Store.
Reebok Instapump Fury
Reebok’s Instapump Fury is already the brand’s wildest silhouette but the latest colourway pushes it even further. The mismatched pair features clashing patterns from zebra-print to decadent Italian patterns. There are also spikes on the heel and a plethora of textures from shiny leather to graphite. It’s set to be released Wednesday, 30th September at midnight AEST.
Yeezy Boost 350 V2 ‘Carbon’
The Yeezy collection is multiplying at a rapid pace this year. As well as new silhouettes, the Kanye-led shoe has been expanding on the classics. The Yeezy Boost 350 V2 now has a Carbon version with an ash colourway. The mismatched knits below the classic 350 stripe are the shoe’s biggest feature but it’s also got a crisp, cream sole and black laces. The shoe will be released 2nd October on the Adidas webstore and Yeezy Supply.
