The three word’s in the watch’s title are representative of Lange’s horological hallmarks.

  • “Digital” Display: The original Zeitwerk was launched in 2009 and grabbed the world’s attention with its ingenious “digital” time display, mechanically driven by three disks with three sets of jumping numerals.
  • Honeygold: Saved for special occasions like last year’s Homage to F.A. Lange editions, this latest model has a case made from Lange’s proprietary Honey Gold. This alloy is harder than traditional gold alloys and achieves its distinctly warm gloss from special heat treatment and mineral additives.
  • Luminous Numerals: Lastly, the timepiece features a semi-transparent “Lumen” dial, allowing the numerals on the disk to glow in the dark. The first Lumen edition made its debut in 2010; this will be only the fifth model in a rare series and the first since 2018’s Datograph Up/Down Lumen.

Hurdling its predecessors, the Zeitwerk Honeygold “Lumen” comes equipped with a new in-house movement, Caliber LO43.9, which doubles its power reserve to 72 hours. In line with the mechanical tradition of previous Zeitwerks, three discs work in concert to keep the numerals rotating through the time bridge.

Another new addition to the 41.9-mm case is the pusher at 4 o’clock, which allows the hour indication to be switched separately, making the setting of time more efficient. This new inclusion forced Lange’s designers to increase the number of movement parts to 462.

If A. Lange & Söhne knows one thing, it’s the power of visibility, after all, there’s no point putting your time and effort into an innovation only to seal up the fruits of your labour behind closed workings. It’s precisely why the German icon has put the gorgeous complexity of the Zeitwerk Honeygold Lumen on full display, visible through the stunning sapphire caseback. In line with historical Saxon watchmaking, the movement comprises a three-quarter mainplate made of untreated German silver and boasts hand engraving on the escape-wheel cocks.

The A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Honeygold “Lumen” is available on a hand-stitched dark brown leather strap with a prong buckle forged from the same Honey Gold as the case. Exclusive to Lange’s boutiques, pick one up for a cheeky USD$145,000 (AU$195,000).
