High-end jewellery, high-end watches, high-end accessories, high-end…whisky? Why the heck not?! Proving that premium craftsmanship knows no boundaries, fine jeweller Jacob & Co will soon release a 30-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky in a bespoke decanter designed by Constellation X and co-signed by street artist Alec Monopoly. The juice itself was assembled by ex-Bowmore Master Blender Andrew Rankin, meaning drinkers can expect something distinctive and delicious. Only two thousand decanters will be available for a suggested retail price of US$2,500. What, you thought this stuff would be cheap?
Founded by Jacob Arabo—aka “Jacob the Jeweler” (as dubbed by rapper Notorious B.I.G.)—Jacob & Co built its reputation by custom-designing jewellery for hip-hop artists and other celebrity clientele throughout the 1990s. The business expanded to become an international luxury brand and a prominent status symbol by the early 2000s.
Bringing high-end watches into the fold, Arabo established the Swiss-based Jacob & Co SA in 2007. He followed that with the release of the Quenttin, an ultra-premium mechanical timepiece with a vertical tourbillon and record-breaking (at the time) 31-day power reserve. To date, the name Jacob & Co remains synonymous with high-end jewellery, watches, accessories, and even the world’s tallest residential tower in Dubai. For the brand’s latest, however, it’s gone to heights of a different nature.
The new blended Scotch whisky comes by way of famed artist, Alec Monopoly. Originally from New York City, Monopoly moved to Los Angeles in 2006 and made a name for himself as a DJ and street artist. He drew upon everything from the 2008 financial crisis to Bernie Madoff to the timeless board game when dressing like the Monopoly Man as part of his repertoire and furthering his career as a result. A brand ambassador to TAG Heuer and personal friend to Jacob & Co, he’s certainly no stranger to the world of fine watchmaking and jewellery.
A master jeweller perhaps, but Jacob & Co founder Jacob Arabo also loves himself a dram of top-shelf Scotch whisky (preferably something smooth, creamy, and peppery with lingering oak accents). It was from this particular passion that the new limited-edition whisky was born. Like everything from Arabo, it delivers impeccable quality and craftsmanship with a luxurious presentation to match.
When bringing the spirit to life, ex-Bowmore Master Blender Andrew Rankin sourced an array of the finest Scotch whiskies—aged 26 years and up—from first and second-fill ex-Bourbon American Oak. Upon marrying them together, he put the resulting blend inside new American Oak bourbon barrels for an additional four years. The liquid that emerged touches down on Jacob Arabo’s preferred flavour profile, wrapping notes of pepper and hints of oak within a smooth and creamy body.
For the finishing touch, Constellation X designed a bespoke decanter in collaboration with Alec Monopoly, who tagged his first name on the front in vibrant colour. Decanter #1 is a special edition and a work of art unto itself in that it was individually painted by Monopoly (as was the adjoining holder and box). This particular bottle will be offered at auction.
Aged for 30 years at minimum and limited to two thousand decanters, the Jacob & Co x Alec Monopoly Blended Malt Scotch Whisky will be available through Constellation X and select retailers. You’ve heard about a taste of the good life and here’s your chance to score one…literally.
