Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer and brand ambassador Chris Hemsworth kicked off this year’s Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix with a party for the ages. The action went down at the Silver Leaf at the Gardens by the Bay, where the vibe was quite literally electrifying. Within close range of the park’s futuristic supertrees, over 300 guests gathered for the event, with Many of Many lucky enough to be invited along to enjoy the action. It was a spectacular way to get the adrenaline flowing before the action begins this Sunday.
As if the locale wasn’t already stimulating enough, TAG Heuer went the extra mile by covering an 8-metre tunnel entrance in red and green LED lights (i.e. the brand colours). Once inside, we were greeted by an epic backdrop of sleek skyscrapers along with towering pillars of luminous flora. Flanked by unforgettable views and gorgeous people, partygoers conversed and imbibed while facing the main stage.
To galvanise the crowd, Singapore music sensation The Sam Willows performed a set of their best-known hits. The band’s propulsive moves and dance-friendly beats made for the perfect warm-up. Lead guitarist Jon Chua JX has a tight connection with TAG Heuer, having signed a year-long partnership with the brand back in March.
After the performance ended, Australia’s own Chris Hemsworth and Belgian-Dutch racing driver Max Verstappen took the stage to rapturous applause. They were joined by Amelia Sillard, Vice-President of TAG Heuer South-East Asia and Australia, who greeted them with these words: “The Formula 1 season is upon us here in Singapore, and for TAG Heuer it means we celebrate the great partnership we have with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Formula 1 — and more widely motorsport and performance which are so deeply rooted in our brand DNA. I thank Max and the team for joining us tonight and wish you the best of luck this weekend. And a very warm welcome to our long-standing ambassador Chris, who made the trip especially from Australia to be with us for this exciting weekend!”
Next, entertainer and host Rozz Lee—who was among TAG Heuer’s first friends in Singapore—came onstage for a chat with Hemsworth and Verstappen. Hemsworth talked about spending quality time with the family in Australa and went on to discuss his relationship with the brand. When it was Verstappen’s time to shine, he delved into his passion for motorsport while reflecting upon previous Singapore Grand Prix races.
After the interview, Hemsworth and Verstappen engaged in an F1-inspired showdown. The first event was a “Pit Stop Tyre Challenge,” which found the two men racing the clock as they squared off over their tyre-changing skills. That was followed by the “Batak Challenge,” a test of reflexes and hand-eye coordination. In a surprise to no one, Verstappen came out the victor.
Hemsworth exited the stage but the party was far from over. With DJ Boey handling the music, drinks continued to flow and cell phones continued to record. We were delighted to be there ourselves and not just because we appreciate a good party. It’s always a pleasure being kept in the loop by TAG Heuer, who easily ranks among our favourite watch brands. Speaking of which, have you checked out the new Carrera Calibre 16 Collection? It’s incredible!
