Mansory Turns Mercedes Benz G-Class G63 into an Unsuspecting Armoured Tank

It’s a wonderful world that we live in today. The stereotypes of the past are melting away, and tanks no longer have to look like tanks to provide you with the protection you need. Take the Mercedes Benz G-Klasse G63 from Mansory for example. This G-Class makes prolific use of carbon components to provide ample protection from anything you may encounter of your travels.

In keeping with the idea that an armoured vehicle doesn’t need to look like an armoured vehicle, Mansory employs an “invisible armour” approach. “Dark carbon” is used below the window line and blinds and even replaces some standard parts. Admittedly, carbon fibre is better known for keeping a vehicle’s weight down, and not for its prowess at stopping projectiles, so Mansory must have put in additional protection beneath the carbon because this G-Class has a VPAM 4 and VPAM7 protection. These ratings mean that the armour can stop handgun fire all the way up to 30-calibre rifle rounds. The window panes are 41 mm thick as well.

Mansory’s G-Class also offers protection against shelling and explosives with reinforced floors and roofs. The passenger cell offers VPAM-ERV protection. Finally, it comes with all the safety gear you would expect—siren, intercom, fire extinguisher, breathing masks, and a signal system that is integrated into the front apron and roof. Of course, when things get hot, you’re not going to want to stick around. The G-Class has upgraded power, bringing the engine up to either 700 or 800 horsepower.

All that protection comes with Mansory’s signature posh comfort. The interior is done in light tan and brown quilted leather. This is a vehicle that you can wait out a siege in and still show up at the red carpet in absolute style. And what will this armored Mercedes Benz G-Class G63 cost? That’s a great question, and it’s one you’ll have to ask Mansory.
