Aston Martin has dropped the top on its beloved Vantage and the results are predictably extraordinary. Like the almighty Vantage Coupe, the new Roadster takes driver-focussed performance to powerful and passionate extremes. It also features the world’s fastest fully automatic automotive convertible roof, which reportedly does its thing in a mere 7 seconds flat. Thrilling is hardly the word.
Irresistible at first sight, the Vantage Roadster represents a masterpiece of design and engineering. Thanks to Aston Martin’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo 510PS/685Nm V8 engine and an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, the brilliant two-seater goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 190 mph when the roof is raised. Overall, the sports car weighs just 60kg more than the Coupe, with a little help from a lighter Z-fold roof mechanism and optimised chassis and exterior.
Respectively offering Sport, Sport+, and Track modes for both the chassis and powertrain, the Vantage Roadster delivers the utmost tier of control and responsiveness. Whether you’re cruising the open road or taking it to the nearest race track, you can expect supreme adaptability and cornering performance.
While similar to the Coupe, the Vantage Roadster is definitely its own beast. Distinguishing features include a bespoke tune for the rear dampers along with refinements to the Adaptive Damping System software and ESP calibration. Then we have the insanely swift convertible roof, which descends in just 7 seconds. Call it yet another benchmark for the superior automaker.
The Aston Martin Vantage Roadster will be offered at a recommended retail price of US$161,000 and first deliveries are scheduled to begin during Q2 2020.
