Ultimate Ears’ UE Boom speakers are perhaps best known for their design. The cylindrical speakers have always featured bright and colorful fabrics and rubber designs. Following suit with other tech companies—like Microsoft’s Xbox Design Lab—UE Boom is now offering customers the chance to customize their speakers to match their own individual tastes and style.
The process is simple, just head over to UE Boom’s website and get started designing your speakers. You can choose from a whole variety of options, from the colors of the fabric body to the ends caps. You can also select what type of volume buttons you want, how you want the rubberized spine to look, and which fabric loop you want. You can also add a short text message onto the speakers. And if you’re not sure what you want, or if you’re overwhelmed by all the options, you can use the “I’m feeling lucky” button to get a pre-generated color combination that you can change up.
You will, of course, have to pay a little bit more for this service. Typically, Boom speakers run for $149; the customizable speaker will cost you $179, which isn’t bad considering all the options you can choose from. Currently, you can only customize the Boom 3, but if the offering is successful, no doubt Ultimate Ears will add other speakers, like their UE Blast or MegaBlast.
