Dell Refreshes its Flagship XPS 15 and XPS 17 With 13th Gen Intel Chipsets

Dell XPS 15 and XPS 17 laptops are getting a “mild” hardware refresh for 2023, packing the newest 13th Gen Intel chipsets and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 series GPUs. This new 2023 update largely focuses on the internals, carrying most of the things over from the last year’s predecessor. Both XPS 15 and XPS 17 are available in Core i5, Core i7, and Core i9 H-series CPU configurations and come with up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM. Like last year, the overall design remains sleek and stylish but Dell has made some subtle changes. The XPS 15 and XPS 17 are crafted using CNC-machined aluminium and Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which lends to the laptop’s sturdy yet lightweight frame.

Both laptops take advantage of Dell’s InfinityEdge, almost-bezel-less displays and are available in high-res OLED variants (3840 x 2400 on the XPS 17, and 3456 x 2160 on the XPS 15), or more standard-definition panels without OLED. Every display option has support for Dolby Vision. In terms of graphical capabilities, the Dell XPS 15 is being offered in Arc A370M GPU, Nvidia RTX 4050, 4060, or 4070. While Dell XPS 17’s GPU range even has the RTX 4080 option.

The two can be configured with between 512GB and 4TB of SSD storage, however, Dell notes that the laptops actually support up to 8TB. The XPS 15 includes an 86 Wh battery, while the XPS 17 offers a chunkier 97 Wh battery. In terms of ports and connectivity, Dell XPS 15 features 2x Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen2, an SD card reader and a 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo.

While the XPS 17 has 4x Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), an SD card reader and a 3.5m headphone/microphone combo. There’s Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 on both devices for blazing-fast connectivity. Both laptops have four speakers (two woofers and two tweeters) equipped with Waves Nx 3D audio, XPS Creator Edition, and Studio Drivers. Nvidia says that the 13th Gen Intel processor combined with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs will help the new Dell XPS 15 and 17 to deliver AI-powered graphics, a smooth gaming experience, and super-fast content creation workflows.

The main highlight of the 2023 XPS 15 and XPS 17 laptops are the new chipsets. The entry-level XPS 15 is priced at USD$2,949 for the Intel Core i9, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, 32GB of DDR5, 1TB SSD and OLED panel, while the XPS 17 will begin at USD $3,399 with the same specs and its highest-end panel. Other configurations are slated to arrive sometime “post launch.”
