Insta360 has revealed their new X5 flagship 360° camera with 8K 360° video capability (5.7K60fps with HDR), InstaFrame Mode that records both an auto-framed flat video and full 360° simultaneously, a replaceable lens system, built-in wind guard with mesh shield for audio, and last but certainly not least, dual 1/1.28″ sensors—144% larger than the previous X4 model.

The world’s best-selling 360° camera brand hopes that these new additions will keep them ahead of the competition, and upon first glance at the spec sheet, it’s certainly shaping up that way.

Priced from USD$549.99 (Standard) and USD$659.99 (Essentials Bundle) respectively and available at from April 22, 2025, via Insta360 Store, Amazon, and authorised retailers, JK Liu, Founder of Insta360, says the “X5 redefines 360° cameras by solving creators’ real challenges. From replaceable lenses to AI-powered low-light shooting, we’ve built our dream camera—rugged enough for adventure, capable enough to produce high-quality footage, and intelligent enough to capture epic moments effortlessly.”

The biggest upgrade for the Insta360 X5 is in the video hardware and software. Dual 1/1.28″ sensors (144% larger than the previous X4 model) can capture substantially more light, and they’re supersampling from 11K to 8K, so the result is a minimal loss in image quality and outstanding true-to-life video. As expected, these upgrades enhance low-light capture, but the capability of these dual 1/1.28″ sensors is enhanced further thanks to a Triple AI Chip system (1x 5nm AI chip, 2x Pro Imaging Chips) and new PureVideo mode for increased AI noise reduction.

Those who want to shoot regular video in HDR can now do so in 5.7K at 60fps, which gives these high-contrast images a smoother, sharper look. Lastly, the FlowState Stabilisation and 360° Horizon Lock for ultra-smooth footage remains, and it’s also connected the same, with a quick magnetic mounting system for easy accessory changes.

Battery life is enhanced thanks to a large 2400mAh battery that supports up to 185 minutes (Endurance Mode), and charges 80% in 20 minutes.

Then, there are the controls, and you can control the camera in a few familiar ways that would come as second-nature to action camera enthusiasts, including Twist to Shoot, Voice Control 2.0, Gesture Control, and it has wireless remote support for clearer audio.

Of course, most people’s complaints about 360° video stem from the complicated software that you have to use to edit the videos and cut them down into usable clips. However, they’ve tackled that head-on with the new camera, and the X5 comes with a new InstaFrame Mode that records both an auto-framed flat video and full 360° simultaneously. It then spits out this instantly shareable flat video with no editing required, and you have a choice of two views for this— fixed (at a certain angle) or selfie view (face you).

The second full 360° video is also recorded, so you never miss out on the important, unexpected action that’s happening in your shot.

When you want to use and edit that second video, hop into the revamped post-production where Insta360 has simplified the user interface with intuitive tools, including One-tap Dewarp, Quick Edit, and AI Edit for easy video creation. When all that’s too hard, check out Shot Lab, which includes 40+ templates with AI automation. Of course, full manual editing options remain for advanced creators, and we recommend using the Insta360 Studio desktop software if you’re going down that route. It’s available for free with high-quality exports and supports the Insta360+ cloud service for auto-backup, remote editing, and seamless sharing.

Finally, Insta360 has added plenty of durability to the new X5, including an industry-first replaceable lens system for on-the-go swaps, ultra-durable, scratch-resistant glass for rugged use, a built-in wind guard with mesh shield and enhanced audio processing, and the camera is waterproof to 49ft (15m) with an IP68 rating.

The new Insta360 X5 is available from April 22, 2025, via Insta360 Store, Amazon, and authorised retailers. It’s priced from USD$549.99 (Standard) and USD$659.99 (Essentials Bundle) and we’ve included a full specs list down below for this new camera.
