Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is Returning to the MCU
With the MCU expanding dramatically in recent years, it’s often hard to keep up with the fresh faces, however, Marvel is helping us out by reviving some familiar ones. After the success of Netflix’s early Marvel series, Disney and Kevin Feige have decided to dig up the stars, reviving the likes of Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock, otherwise known as Daredevil, for an all-new run. The character was reintroduced during the first season of She-Hulk before the Marve juggernaut confirmed the blind lawyer superhero would be copping his own standalone series, Daredevil: Born Again. Best of all, new reports have suggested he won’t be coming alone.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Jon Bernthal will officially be reprising his role as Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher, in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series. This confirmation comes after months of speculation that Bernthal would be back in the role as well as the accidental leak of the news from Ahsoka actor Rosario Dawson. Bernthal himself shared the announcement on social media, with a caption-less Instagram post that simply included a photo of what appears to be a behind-the-scenes still from the final scene of Netflix’s The Punisher.
The actor first rose to fame for his portrayal of Shane in the first two seasons of The Walking Dead, before appearing in Baby Driver and The Wolf of Wall Street. And while the likes of Bernthal and Cox are both back playing their respective roles from the Netflix universe, other actors from the Netflix Daredevil series are not expected to return. The Hollywood Reporter further stated that actors Deborah Ann Will and Elden Henson will not be returning to play Karen Page and Foggy Nelson.
However, it is still yet to be confirmed if these characters will be recast or if they will simply be removed from the narrative. Joining Bernthal and Cox as actors who will be coming back from the Netflix series is Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, with the character reportedly appearing in the upcoming Echo series. Daredevil: Born Again is set to begin airing on Disney+ in 2024.
