Dior has followed up last year’s men’s Ski Capsule with a suitably vibrant palette. Much like the original iteration, artistic director Kim Jones has pursued this collaboration with British painter Peter Doig, but this time, he’s brought a new name to the fold. The hypercolour collaboration reimagines a ski capsule by fusing art, fashion, technicality and by weaving a creative and technical interaction with the Japanese ski apparel master Descentes.
Speaking with WWD earlier this, Jones said he was the perfect person to lead the latest collection. “He has such a passion, and he also spends a lot of time working in Zermatt, in Switzerland, so he is interested in the technical side of skiwear because he skis every day when he’s there. It brought a lot of inspiration to the collection.”
All the silhouettes in this men’s winter wardrobe are designed for skiing, where form and function are perfectly combined and offer a unique experience. The collection uses environmentally responsible Nylon and is filled with ethically-sourced feathers while being both waterproof, ultra-light and insulating.
The collection of ready-to-wear collides the Dior house’s codes with illuminating colours and a pared-back aesthetic. The collection features a range of colourful bright and patterned parka’s that feature a laser-cut Dior logo on them. There’s also a range of ski pants that are tailored and streamlined for ease of movement on the slopes.
But that’s not all, for a touch of couture. The collection features a helmet adorned with the “Dior” logo and goggles and ski masks that are made by Swedish company POC. There’s also a crewneck sweater with a reflective Dior Oblique print, gloves, a scarf and headbands designed by Dior. As well as a range of skiwear featuring jacquards and fleeces with decorative patterns inspired by Peter Doig paintings.
The capsule also includes a pair of skis as well as a snowboard that is laser-engraved with the Dior oblique motif that was developed by the Swiss artisans AK SKI. They’re available in two sizes, they are crafted from a unique wood and carbon alloy and feature high shock absorption capacity. But the ultimate surprise of this ski capsule is a sled made by Akonite.
Speaking of the collection last year, Jones told Highsnobiety that “This ski capsule is the result of different incredible creative encounters with specialist brands such as Descente, AK SKI, and POC … To bring them together in this special collaboration gave us the opportunity to present something exciting desirable, that combines our unique savoir-faire with the best technology in the ski world.”
