Custom Nike AF1 by Sneaker Freaker and BespokeIND ‘Melbourne Rules’
In honour of the Australian Rules Football grand final weekend, Sneaker Freaker and BespokeIND have come together to design two custom Nike Airforce 1 sneakers. Celebrating the beloved ‘Sherrin’ football, the Simon Wood design (founder and editor of Sneaker Freaker), has seen the two Melbourne based brands have come together to create both a yellow and red pair of shoes. Both pairs have utilised all four panels of the Sherrin on the upper, sitting on a distinct white sole. Each are fully lined with black kangaroo leather, featuring waxed cotton laces and vegetable tanned leather insoles that have been laser-etched with custom logos. As myself and people from all over the country converge on Melbourne over the long weekend, these shoes are a beautifully made and fitting tribute to the great game of AFL. Go Swans!
Adidas Yeezy boost 350 V2 ‘Beluga’
The newest addition to Adidas and Kanye’s Yeezy Boost range comes to us as the 350 V2. The shoe is an update on the 350, with more luxurious and impressive detail. The solar red stripe running along the outside of the Beluga is eye-catching against the grey upper, accompanied with solar red flecks throughout. The inside lining of the shoe is suede, with a reinforced toe box is giving it a plusher and more stable feel then previous 350’s. The boost on the Beluga stays true to the comfort Yeezys with the addition of a slightly translucent outer sole adding to the look, which I personally hope sticks around. Overall, these Yeezy’s may be steep in price or hard to get your hands on (especially for us Aussies), but I will be rocking them over the weekend as they are a must buy for me! They were available on adidas.com.au for $340 but have sold out!
Pharrell x Adidas Hu NMD ‘Scarlet Red’
Pharrell Williams has yet again collaborated with adidas, lending his creativity to the popular NMD silhouette. Last week’s special edition release of Pharrell Williams NMD’s are distinctive in both appearance and symbolism, bringing us four new NMD colourways. Written differently on each of the colourways, ‘Human Race’ is graphically printed on the upper of each shoe. My pick of the new colours is undoubtedly the scarlet red shoe. The red upper is striking atop the NMD’s white Boost sole, alongside a contrasting black stabilizing cage. White text graphics feature with, “Hu” featuring on the right shoe and “Race” on the left. According to adidas and Pharrell, the shoes are designed to celebrate that humans are united as one race, regardless of our differences. This release has brought us a great message in a great looking shoe. These were available on adidas.com.au but since sold out, owing to ongoing popularity of Pharrell x adidas collaborations.
Asics Gel Lyte III MT ‘India Ink’
The latest release of Asics Gel Lyte III MT updates a shoe style that has been around for 25 years. As the biggest change to the Gel Lyte III silhouette to date, the cut of the shoe has been modified to give it a boot-like appearance with a high top with a sock-like inner lining. Asics have also added tread to the outsole of the shoe. These two new features of the shoe are accmoapnied by added insulation for the upcoming American winter. The India Ink colour way is one of two released in the update, with a predominately dark blue upper, cream collar and speckled sole. These are another high-top sneaker take on a classic and have to be one of my favourites. Overall, Asics have succeeded in innovating this sneaker silhouette whilst staying true to the classic looks and features of the Gel Lyte III that we all love.
Air Max 95 x Dave White x Size? ‘Rabbit’ and ‘Fox’
Dave White, a contemporary British artist and Size? have again jumped into collab with Nike to bring us one of the best looking Air Max 95’s we have seen in a while. With two shoes in the pack the ‘Rabbit’ has a predominately off white upper with the ‘Fox’ features an orange upper. Each style of shoe has a gradient graphic detail of native British wildlife, inspired by Dave’s ‘Albion collection’. These shoes are both incredibly detailed with different textures all over the upper and tongue. If you are like me and have enjoyed the resurgence of the Air Max 95 then these are a must cop. Be quick they are on size? or nikes SNKRS page.
Nike Sock Dart ‘Gym Red’
The arrival of Nike ID to Australian shores means that Nike Sock Darts and many other classic Nike silhouettes have become easier to get your hands on. This weekend we saw the release of three Sock Dart colourways with ‘Gym Red’ being my pick of them. The all red upper sits on a clean white midsole, with a couple of black swooshes and a black outsole all brought together by a translucent rubber strap tightening system. The name Sock Dart gives us a big hint at how these feel on the foot, practically slipping on and with a super close sock-like fit. This shoe is a simple, clean colourway that has enough flare to get you noticed in any crowd.
Nike LeBron Soldier 10 ‘Camo’
Nike has recently released the appropriately named, Solider 10, in a camouflage colourway. LeBron first wore the Soldier 10 show in the NBA finals last year in a performance that has solidified his dominance and made this shoe an icon of our era. Lebron’s have really become the next generation of Jordans. The high cut sneaker has no laces, instead three wide straps with the middle featuring Lebron’s logo. The camo upper sits upon a black mid sole and straps with an army green outsole. Released on the first weekend of October, the camouflage colourway are assured to stand out whether you’re on the court or rocking them down the street.
Air Jordan 5 ‘Bronze’
The Air Jordan ‘Bronze’ pays homage to the US Mens Basketball team at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The colourway references the bronze medal won by the team at the 2004 games, which has inspired them to achieve greater success like when Michael Jordan was lacing up for them. The shoe features an upper draped in an obsidian leather that is set against a white midsole. True to the name, it has polished metallic Bronze accents, including a bold and eye-catching tongue with a black Jumpman symbol. Released by Nike Basketball, this Jordan 5 has brought the 90’s classic shoe into the modern day arena with this new colourway.
