Sneaker News #16 – Converse, New Balance & adidas All Prep High-Profile Collabs


Welcome to Sneaker News #16. It’s another big week for collaborations with Converse, New Balance, adidas and Asics all finding creative partners for their latest drops. From Tyler The Creator’s latest nostalgia-inducing shoe for Converse to Adidas’ extensive range with gamer Ninja, there’s a wide range of sneakers prepped for release over the coming week. Check out that plus new colourways of iconic Nike silhouettes and a throwback Reebok basketball sneaker below. 

Converse x Union LA Chuck Taylor

Fresh from their Nike collab, staple streetwear store Union LA is teaming up with Converse once again. Using the iconic Chuck Taylor silhouette, the shoe features designer/artist Shelia Bridges’ ‘Harlem Toile’ print celebrating black culture while also playfully appropriating the French bourgeois style. It’s set to drop at Converse online on 13th October and it’s likely to sell quickly.

Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Dark Grey’

Nike continues to roll out new colourways of its Dunk Low which has become one of the most in-demand silhouettes of the year. The ‘Dark Grey’ variation gives the shoe one of its most drastic updates to date. Created using recycled materials, the largely monochromatic design pops with an abstract, stitched ‘swoosh’ and tiny, coloured specks. Nike describes the shoe as its “vision for the future of skate footwear”. Head into the future with them when it drops 17th October on Nike at 6am AEDT.

adidas Ninja Nite Jogger

adidas has teamed with famous gamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins for an extensive collection updating some of their most iconic shoes. This is Ninja’s take on the Nite Jogger – a shoe which originated in the 1980s as the label’s first reflective runner. It’s been updated since then but Ninja has retained some of the reflective attributes while also colouring it with an orange leather upper and blue stripes. It’s set to drop midnight AEDT on Wednesday, 13th October.

New Balance 2002r x Salehe Bembury

New Balance has had a landmark year, crashing back into the streetwear scene with a number of high-profile collaborations. Its latest is a collaboration with Salehe Bembury of Versace for a lush, desert-toned shoe. The shoe melds together two of the brands’ silhouette taking the upper of the New Balance 2002 and the outsole of the 860v2. A plush, blue ‘N’ is accompanied by a blend of suede, mesh and leather. It’s set to be released on 22nd October in very limited quantities.

Reebok Harden Question Mid Shoes

Reebok continues to dive into the archive, this time reviving Allen ‘The Answer’ Iverson’s classic court shoes. It’s a flashy shoe boasting a metallic silver upper and rich, red laces. It’s also got hexagonal cushioning and an embroidered logo with an EVA midsole for some extra comfort. Reebok is set to release these ones on Friday, 16th October at midnight.

END. x Asics GEL-LYTE III ‘Pearl’

British online streetwear store END. is coming together with Asics for a pearl-themed take of the GL3. It’s in celebration of the sites 15th anniversary and it’s an appropriately decadent celebration. The suede shoe features shades of pink and purple with a Mother of Pearl sockliner and a clear outsole. Nike TN1 Survivalist

Footlocker is gearing up to release two new colourways of the Nike TN 1 ‘Survivalist’. The Air Max shoe is one of the brand’s most recognisable and innovative silhouettes with plenty of colourways being rolled out over the past few years. This time around, it’s getting a black and blue edition. The blue colourway features a metallic silver ‘swoosh’ with blue detailing while the black one houses a blue ‘swoosh’ with grey/black detailing. They’re set to arrive at Footlocker on Wednesday, 14th October.

Converse x Golf Le Fleur Gianno Suede Low Top

Tyler The Creator’s Converse collaboration Golf Le Fleur has given way to some of the most in-demand shoes of the past few years. The latest drop is two new colourways of the Golf Le Fleur Gianno Suede Low Top. It comes in ‘Evergreen’ and ‘Lavender Gray’ recalling heavy ‘90s nostalgia. According to Converse, it was conceived from Tyler’s love for hiking and BMX. There’s no way, however, we’d be rising these shoes getting dirty. They drop in the US on 15th October and it’s expected an Australian drop will happen around the same time.
