Welcome to Sneaker News #34. Nike is throwing it back this week, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Air Max ’96 II with a nostalgia-inducing denim colourway. If you’re feeling the future more than the past you’re also in luck. New Balance, Nike and Asics are all pushing the envelope with new designs envisioning the future of footwear. Meanwhile, adidas and Air Jordan are dropping modest classics designed for everyday use. Check it all out below.
Air Max ’96 II ‘Denim’
25 years after its initial debut the Air Max ’96 is back with a nostalgic colourway. Sergio Lozano originally designed the shoes back in 1996 giving the Air Max a different vibe by combining the technology with a honeycomb construction. In celebration of its anniversary, the Air Max ’96 returns with a denim upper, combining tones of blue, red and yellow for a distinctly vintage feel. Cop from Nike on 22nd June.
Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Maize And Black’
The Dunk Low has been getting all the love lately so now Nike is switching the attention back to the High with the ‘Maize and Black’ colourway. If you’ve been a fan of the Dunk over the past year or so, you know the drill. The colourway is bold and simple. This one combines yellow and black on a Suede upper throwing it back to the shoes’ heritage as a basketball shoe before it was adopted by the skate community. Nike will have them from 3rd July.
Air Jordan 1 Low OG ‘Neutral Grey’
As the Dunk goes high, the Air Jordan goes low. The Low has been given a classic, simple colourway that’s likely to make it a very popular and wearable release. This colourway stays true to the OG with the exception of a few tweaks including an elevated logo on the heel and Nike Air branding on the tongue. They’re due to drop on Nike on 24th June and you’re most likely going to have to be quick.
adidas x Noah Rod Laver
adidas has teamed with NYC-brand Noah for a new take on its archival tennis shoe the Rod Laver, named, of course, after the legendary tennis player. The brand has put its take on it by delivering a suede and mesh upper and contrasting mid-soles. The shell logo featured across the shoes from the heel to the tongue is a nod to Noah founder Brendon Babenzien’s Long Island roots.
New Balance Vision Racer ‘Grey’
Jaden Smith’s New Balance collaborations continue to roll out. This time, the Vision Racer arrives in ‘Grey’, one of its most muted colourways yet. The upper almost looks like a classic New Balance shoe with its grey and blue tones while the sole brings it into the future. It’s chunky and adventurous with a pop of pink on the bottom’s “Do you see it yet?” mantra. The shoes are available to cop right now from New Balance.

New Balance x Salehe Bembury 2002R ‘Water Be The Guide’
Salehe Bembury has another collaboration with New Balance. Once again rejuvenating the 2002R silhouette, Bembury is going aquatic with this one. Tones of aqua green dominate the upper across hairy suede and mesh. Nike Flow 2020 ISPA
We’ve got one more Nike drop this week for you. The Nike Flow 2020 ISPA is all about customisable support. The unique lacing system with a pull string on the tongue allows you to customise the fit so it’s perfect every time. The mesh has also been placed in the areas where you need breathability the most. The woven fabric on the upper, delivered with muted, earthy tones, is also durable and comfortable making the shoes feel like wearing socks. Nike’s ISPA releases are all about pushing footwear design forward by exploring untapped potential. The Flow delivers on that. They’re set to drop on 22nd June at Subtype.
