TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing Speeds Off the Mark
Here’s a quick test: what brand does the name “Carrera” belong to? Is it Porsche, or TAG Heuer? Your response may inform people of what you admire most. For those that answered both, you’re spot on and no doubt are a fan of both classic automobiles and horological beauties. It’s part of a relationship between the two brands—a relationship that TAG Heuer CEO Frederic Arnault hopes to keep going. “Together, with their expertise and creativity, our teams have created a bold and powerful timepiece encased in a sporty yet elegant design,” said Arnault of the new TAG Heuer x Porsche Carrera Chronograph.

Unveiled at LVMH Watch Week 2023, the sporty new Carrera model, the fifth to be produced between the two brands, takes inspiration from both TAG Heuer and Porsche’s commitment to design excellence on and off the track. Based on the famous TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph, this model is fitted with the flagship Calibre Heuer 02, an in-house movement that dishes up a solid 80 hours of power reserve. This in-house model features 168 components, which include a column wheel and a vertical clutch, with the oscillating weight designed to resemble the Porsche steering wheel—you can see it through the transparent sapphire case back
“With such a strong heritage shared with Porsche in the racing field, we are excited to present a new watch that embodies every aspect of this incredible sport,” TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault said. “It is also a nod to the history shared by TAG Heuer and Porsche – a history on which we continue to build. Together, with their expertise and creativity, our teams have created a bold and powerful timepiece encased in a sporty yet elegant design.”

In a handy little addition, the new 44mm TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing is made from Diamond Like Carbon stainless steel, something that TAG Heuer has been steadily working on over the past few years. Being a racing-inspired watch (the first Carrera was made by Jack Heuer in 1963 after he witnessed the Carrera Panamericana race), the watch comes with a black ceramic tachymeter bezel that you can use to measure speed or distance.
Importantly, this new timepiece doesn’t skip on looks, either. The Carrera x Porsche Orange Racing does feature a stunning shade of orange through, said to represent the colour of the heat sparks made by the car on the asphalt. Marked out in five-minute intervals, the bezel also features the Porsche name between the 60 and 400 kilometres per hour spot. The watch comes on a textured black calfskin strap with orange lining and stitching, with functions for hours, minutes, and seconds.
Given the brands’ shared reputation for quality and high-end products, it should be no surprise that you’ll pay a bit extra to land a watch made by TAG Heuer and Porsche. This collaboration will set you back AUD$10,250.
