Following a highly successful grand opening at the new Rosebery Engine Yards store, where hundreds of people lined up for a taste of Australia’s most perfect croissant, Lune Croissanterie is opening a second store in the heart of the Sydney CBD. It’s set to be the cult-status brand’s most successful new opening to date.

The new Lune store in Sydney will be located at the Martin Place Metro station, right on the corner of Hunter and Castlereagh Street, and is within walking distance of most of Sydney’s landmark destinations, including Circular Quay, Pitt Street Mall, and Sydney Tower. It’s also within striking distance of most of corporate Sydney, so expect to line up with your fair share of suits, should you plan on starting your morning with a Lune croissant and a cup of their Ona coffee.

“It’s been our dream for a long time to open in Sydney,” said founder and co-owner Kate Reid on the opening. “Opening two venues in Sydney almost back-to-back has been challenging, but we’re so excited to be able to finally bring Lune to this incredible city.”

These are the two Lune venues in Sydney right now:

  • Sydney CBD: Metro Martin Place, 1 Elizabeth Street, Sydney NSW 2000 (Entry via Castlereagh)
    • Weekdays: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM or sold out
    • Weekends: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or sold out
  • Rosebery: Rosebery Engine Yards, 115-151 Dunning Avenue, Rosebery (Entry via Mentmore Avenue)
    • Weekdays: 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM or sold out
    • Weekends: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM or sold out

The new Lune Sydney CBD store is a clean minimalist space that was designed by architects Ewert Leaf. It features double-height ceilings, brass, local sandstone, artisan-rendered concrete and polished glass, which are flagship details of Lune stores in Melbourne and Brisbane. When you walk in, however, the stunning pendant lights (featured below) have been arranged to replicate Lune’s iconic hyperdrive graphic. The experience is best described as “gallery-like” with attention to detail that you simply won’t find at other pastry shops. Lune is the designer handbag of pastry, but we’d argue their traditional croissant has even more substance.

With the full offering from the flagship Rosebery store, Lune Sydney CBD will be serving all of your favourites, including:

  • Traditional Croissant
  • Pain au Chocolat
  • Kouign Amann (our favourite, and most of the chef’s favourite, too)
  • Morning Bun
  • Ham & Gruyère
  • Cheese & Vegemite
  • Almond Croissant
  • Lemon Curd Cruffin

If you visit in December there are even a few specialty Lune treats to bring home to your loved ones, including Gingerbread Croissants, Choc Peppermint Pain au Chocolat and a trio of Eggnog Cruffin, Christmas Pudding and The Stuffed Turkey, which are all must-try additions to the menu for this festive month. For now, we’d get there early to avoid disappointment. Expect the lines to be long!
