PlayStation VR2: Every Game Sony Has Announced So Far


If you are wondering whether you should treat yourself to a shiny new PlayStation VR2 or not, then, we have some fantastic news that might help make your decision easier. Sony has revealed that a total of 11 new PlayStation VR2 games are currently in development at various studios that “you’ll be able to enjoy after PS VR2 launches on February 22.” Out of the 11 titles, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR and Crossfire: Sierra Squad seem to be PS VR2 exclusive, while the rest will be cross-platform releases.

Every New PS VR 2 Game Announced

VR gaming headsets have been around for some time now, but despite this, there aren’t a ton of great VR titles to enjoy. But that won’t be the case with PlayStation VR2. With Sony announcing 11 new games, it’s clear that the company is doubling down on VR and wants to push the PS VR2 as the ultimate go-to VR gaming device with a huge catalogue of games. Up until now, we already knew about games like Horizon Call of the Mountain, Resident Evil Village, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition, and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Chapter 2 which are all set to be released on the new hardware in the near future, but they won’t be just the only ones to keep an eye out for. The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR

Supermassive Games is working on a new fast-paced roller coaster action-horror-shooter VR game dubbed The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR where you need to take down your foes with your weapons all while rollercoastering your way through the hellish landscape. The game is set “inside the sinister world of The Dark Pictures Anthology” and borrows a few familiar enemies face from the anthology series like hideous demonic incarnations of persecuted ‘witches’ in 17th-century New England, the serial killer from the World’s Fair Hotel and otherworldly vampires trapped beneath the desert.

“Endure every bump, twist, turn and drop as your cart speeds along the tracks with haptic feedback bringing that roller-coaster feeling to life,” Alejandro Arque Gallardo, Game Director, Supermassive Games said. “Adaptive triggers make each weapon feel unique as you unload on terrifying enemies that emerge from the shadows. Avoid falling beams, overturned buses and hanging witches… No two runs will be the same, but each will test your reactions in this terrifying VR horror experience.”

Crossfire: Sierra Squad

For those craving some first-person VR shooter fun and action, Smilegate is here with its currently in-development Crossfire: Sierra Squad, in which you will need to fight an endless swarm of enemy forces with high AI intelligence. You step into the shoes of the leader of an elite fireteam who presently is “in the middle of a war over a top-secret biochemical weapon that has recently been discovered.” There will be an option to either drop in solo or with up to 4 players on every team using the in-game co-op.

“We are working hard to create a game experience that will suit players new to VR as well as VR veterans by incorporating several modes, including arcade mode, realism mode and hardcore horde mode,” Fred White, Smilegate West director of marketing said. “And if you are the competitive type, you’ll probably find yourself fighting to be on the global leaderboard so the world can see your accomplishments. Our goal is to bring all fans of military FPS games together, regardless of experience level, into an exciting shared adventure – solo or co-op with up to 4 players on a team.”

The Light Brigade

In Funktronic Labs’ The Light Brigade, you are the last line of defence against the growing darkness ready to devour the whole world. This new single-player rogue-like experience promises to be loaded with “immersive gunplay and moody mystery,” where players join “the ranks of the Light Brigade and journey into the Sunken World as many times as it takes.” Your job is to navigate through dense forests, frozen mountains, and forgotten graveyards with the help of weapons and light magic. The Light Brigade will be a cross-platform title available for both PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation VR.

Cities VR – Enhanced Edition

If you liked the city-building game Cities: Skylines, then you probably will love its VR adaptation Cities VR – Enhanced Edition too. The game is already on Meta Quest and will soon be making its PlayStation VR2 debut. Fast Travel Games, the devs behind the title, say that they took advantage of PS5’s additional horsepower to deliver “great detail, allowing you to watch your city come alive all the way from the bustling streets to a bird’s eye view in a smooth experience.”

Cosmonious High

After giving us award-winning games such as Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator, Owlchemy Labs is back with its new and original creation called Cosmonious High, a “comically catastrophic” single-player alien adventure. In the game, “players take on the role of a Prismi, a rare alien species that can adapt to any situation.” They crash inside a school only to find that the building is “alive with delightful characters, but plagued by mysterious malfunctions.” The game will be capable of 4K rendering at 90fps and use almost every feature of the new VR headset to help the game come to life.

Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue

Mr. Peterson is coming back, but this time in VR. Publisher TinyBuild has joined hands with Steel Wool Studio and is developing a VR adaptation of the Hello Neighbor franchise which will be available on PlayStation VR2 and the original PS VR. Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue will take players back to the creepy house to recuse a friend who has been captured and kept in a basement prison. You will “take on the role of six little neighbourhood heroes” in an attempt to save your friend and escape the house alive.

Developers Coatsink is bringing a compilation of both Aftermath titles into one big PS VR2 game called Jurassic World Aftermath Collection. Both Part 1 and Part 2 are already available for the Meta Quest and now PlayStation is getting the same treatment. This survival adventure game’s story will take place between Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, where “players crash land on the familiar Isla Nublar and find themselves trapped in an abandoned research facility.”

Jurassic World Aftermath Collection will have a complete voice-acted narrative by Laura Bailey, with Jeff Goldblum returning as Dr. Ian Malcolm. The game will target 4K at 90 FPS and there will even be a brand-new feature called “The Dino Viewer,” which devs say is “a walking, living museum where players can get up close and personal with their favourite dinosaurs.”

“The game looks better than ever, targeting 4K at 90 FPS,” Ray Willmott, brand strategy manager at Thunderful said. “In addition to taking advantage of PS VR2’s new capabilities like headset rumble and use of 3D audio, we’ve added volumetric lighting, enhanced post-processing effects and faster loading times, which really enhance the immersive nature of this experience.”

Pistol Whip VR

Pistol Whip, 2019’s surprise packet is getting an enhanced version for the upcoming PS VR2 titled Pistol Whip VR. The title is already on Quest and PSVR but with this enhanced version the devs plan to “introduce more depth and dimension to the blood-pumping action with headset feedback and haptic feedback, finger touch detection, and seriously boosted loading speed.”

“The new haptics allow you to re-experience Pistol Whip like never before,” Lucas Sitanski, designer at Cloudhead Games said. “Feel the rush of a bullet grazing your head, the clicks of reloading your gun, and more realistic vibrations when firing.”

Zenith: The Last City

Plenty of enhanced versions of previously released PS VR games will be making their way to the new hardware, including Zenith: The Last City. The game will be a day one launch title and have “hundreds of hours of new content,” drastically improved graphics, and new features thanks to PS VR2’s new architecture. Those who already own the PSVR version will be able to upgrade at no extra cost.

After The Fall

Last year, we got After the Fall, a co-op action shooter for Quest and PSVR. Fast forward to today and Vertigo Games have revealed a PS VR2 version of the game. After The Fall will be set in a post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles and you can either go solo or team up with a maximum of three other players. The developers will bring “a new level of immersion to After the Fall’s signature gunplay” using PS VR2 Sense Controller and the game would have full cross-platform multiplayer support. Furthermore, you won’t need to spend an additional buck for the game if own the PSVR version.

“The world of After the Fall also offers a deeper sense of presence than ever,” Pepijn van Duijn, game designer at Vertigo Games said. “Feel the vibrations in your environment as the Smasher storms towards you, and the hits of Snowbreed as they attack you, through headset feedback. This is one of the best-looking VR worlds we’ve made, bolstered by the 4K HDR display. Scan your surroundings for threats through a whopping 110° field of view – be sure to not blink!”

Tentacular

The last on the list is Tentacular, a physics-based adventure game where you are a warm-hearted tentacled creature who has been raised among humans on the island of La Kalma. The game promises “immersive VR gameplay, a heart-warming story and oodles of humour,” where you need to crack puzzles with the aid of playful tools to create “strange contraptions and spectacular structures or wreak havoc with your lumbering bulk.”Tentacular is a port of the game with the same name presently available on Quest 2 and SteamVR.
