Just when we thought the run of great ASICS Sportstyle sneakers was over, Kiko Kostadinov has released another box fresh silhouette. Called the GEL-FLAMMAE, this hybrid design blends elements from the GEL-Wahine II and GEL-NETBURNER IGS II with lengthened ASICS stripes and plenty of Y2K iridescent colours.
This is, by the brand’s definition, a women’s sneaker. However, the campaign imagery says this is just as suitable for men, and with sizing up to women’s US12 available, all but the biggest men’s feet will fit comfortably. What we love most about this sneaker is the hints to classic ASICS Sportstyle models of the past, primarily those led by Kiko Kostadinov. The best example is on the midsole, where the GEL-KIRIL’s midsole and outsole are used as inspiration. Here, it utilises FLYTEFOAM PROPEL and ASICS GEL cushioning for all-day comfort. If you love the retro design and comfort of the GEL-KAYANO 14, these are on a different level.
Design-wise, the staple wrap-around outsole is prominently featured on the toebox. You’ll also find plenty of other Kostadinov design traits, including the elongated ASICS stripes and pearlescent colourways. The ASICS Sportstyle X Kiko Kostadinov GEL-FLAMMAE is available in two colours: Gunmetal and Mako Blue.
