At the height of the 2024 Paris Olympics, when most of the world was fixated on the pursuit of athletic excellence, the watch community was keeping all eyes on Daniel Craig. During the event, the outgoing James Bond actor was spotted wearing a mysterious, silver-toned OMEGA sans date window. Eagle-eyed fans were quick to speculate if the then-unreleased timepiece was a prototype of a new model, however, OMEGA refused to comment on the rumours. More than two months on, confirmation has finally come, with OMEGA officially announcing the Seamaster Diver 300M No-Date.
A stunning silver-toned stainless steel release that appears tailor-made for adventures at depth, the latest model is a unique revamp for arguably the industry’s most iconic dive watch. Most notably, it marks the first time since 1993 that OMEGA has released a non-special edition Seamaster Diver 300M without a date window; however, the subtle updates don’t stop at the dial configuration.
In recent years, OMEGA’s premier dive watch has followed a familiar design language, best typified by ceramic inserts and construction. With the Seamaster Diver 300M No-Date, the Swiss watchmaker has instead shifted aesthetics, taking inspiration from the Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition worn in the James Bond film, No Time To Die. As with that model, the new 42mm dive watch cops a mesh bracelet and domed sapphire crystal, reminiscent of the design cues of yesteryear, albeit with a refreshed case material.
Of the four new models that have been unveiled, the biggest upgrade is undoubtedly the stainless steel edition, which arrives with a grade 5 titanium bezel and a brushed PVD stainless steel dial. This unique interpretation of the classic Seamaster style is silver all over, with the monochromatic language evoking an almost futuristic approach.
The two black dial models feature the Seamaster’s signature wave-patterned motif, laser-engraved for a precision finish. Similar to the 60 Years of Bond release from 2022, these editions hark back to a bygone era, dropping the ceramic notes for a more matte-finished aluminium bezel insert. It’s simple, straightforward and effortlessly elegant, which is fitting for a timepiece favoured by the ultimate gentleman spy, himself.
Inside, OMEGA has followed a similarly uncompromising approach, adorning the new Seamasters with the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806. Visible through the sapphire crystal on the caseback, the high-precision movement offers 55 hours of power reserve and is tested to OMEGA’s highest standards of magnetic resistance. As you would expect, the diver is certified water-resistant to 300 metres, marking one of the maison’s most impressive deep-diving releases.
Priced at AUD$10,800 for a stainless steel mesh bracelet and AUD$9,850 for models on a rubber strap, the new OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M is available from boutiques now. Undoubtedly, the black aluminium bezel model will prove to be the most popular, courtesy of its timeless design and subtle historical references. However, the brushed PVD stainless steel dial is a serious head-turner.
It’s not often that you see an all-silver timepiece that manages to expertly navigate the tightrope of near-mirrored design and monochromatic aesthetics without falling into gaudy territory. OMEGA has, as we’ve come to expect, nailed it.
