PUPURGE Digital Bathroom Scale
Scott Purcell – Co-Founder
I recently measured my weight over Christmas and I clocked in at a whopping 94.5kgs! While that might not seem like a lot for most, I had always been pretty fit (regularly going to F45) and considered myself pretty lean (typically hovering around the 80kg weight range), but all of those chicken schnitzel and the lack of regular measurement caught up with me.
Despite some of it being muscle mass, I had to face the grim reality that I needed a wake-up call, so I decided to invest in a set of scales. I settled on the PUPURGE Digital Bathroom Scale which has pretty much everything you could ask for. It affects not only your weight but also your body composition, fat, muscle, BMI, body shape and more. It told me I was “Beefy” with “Excessive Overconsumption” which was true.
The good news is that due to the handy charts that sync to your phone for each and every stat it measures, my weight has been tracking downwards. It also syncs with most fitness apps like Samsung Health, Google Fit or Strava. You can even export a handy PDF report with your latest stats, upload that to ChatGPT and ask it to come up with a personalised workout program to target problem areas! A few weeks in I’m already 4.5kg down!

Lord Stow’s Egg Tarts
John Guanzon – Head of Social
Forget about souvenirs—if you’re ever in the vicinity of Macau, drop everything and make a beeline for this bakery. My family and I recently holidayed in Macau and the real jackpot we found wasn’t in the rows and rows of glitzy casinos but in the form of a perfectly caramelised egg tart from Lord Stow’s Bakery. Trust me, it was one of the highlights of our trip, and I’m still thinking about it to this day.
The pastry is impossibly flaky, shattering with each mouthful yet somehow holding up the rich, velvety custard inside. And that custard? Smooth, creamy, and just the right level of sweetness, with a beautifully caramelised top that adds a hint of toasty goodness. Freshly baked throughout the day, the tarts are always warm, with a perfect balance of crisp and creamy textures. We may or may not have bought multiple boxes, daily. Oops. And no, they don’t travel well, so consider that permission you need to eat as much as possible while you’re there. Is anyone going to Macau anytime soon? If so, call me. I’m coming.

Espresso 15” Non-Touch Portable Monitor
Dean Blake – Journalist – Tech, Entertainment & Features
We’re currently in the process of moving offices, which means most of us are working from home for the next few days while everything gets set up. By pure coincidence, I’ve been testing Espresso’s new non-touch 15” portable monitor for the past month or so, and using it with my laptop as a nice little workstation to get my writing done. Well, thanks to how thin and light the device is, I decided to take it home for the next few days and really test out how it works when actually getting moved around the place.
Unsurprisingly, it works really well. Espresso has been making these portable monitors for years now, and they’ve got it down to a science. The model I’m testing, which is the company’s new entry-level display, literally just needs a single USB-C cable plugged in between the device you’re using and the display and it’ll switch on. It works with my MacBook Pro, giving me a bit more real estate when I’m writing, transcribing or researching something, and it also works well with the SteamDeck that I’m testing: effectively turning the two devices into a very capable portable gaming console, albeit one with a relatively short battery life. That could be fixed by using a USB-C dock or something that allows you to power the Deck at the same time, but I don’t have one of those.
There are a few little downsides to this monitor – it caps out at 1080p@60hz, and it being 15” makes it feel a bit too big to be properly considered ‘portable’, which is even more true for the 17” version – but I more so view the Espresso as a ‘flexible’ monitor. It can be used in your study when working, or taken into the living room when gaming, and could be taken outside to a friend’s place or your office on more rare occasions. I doubt anyone is moving these things back and forward between home and office each day, but after having tested so many big, bulky displays in the past few months, I actually really like how simple the Espresso is.
Plus, this version of the display only costs AU$499, and I consider it well worth that price.

Shokz OpenSwim Pro Headphones
Alex Martinez – Media Sales and Brand Partnerships
After attending the Australian launch of Shokz, I was lucky enough to be gifted my very own pair of OpenSwim Pros. These headphones use bone conduction audio, transmitting sound through the outside of your ear instead of inside. It’s a trippy experience, but the audio quality is fantastic. They also let you maintain full spatial awareness, making them perfect for activities like running, cycling, or, in my case, playing basketball. Durable, comfortable, and versatile, the OpenSwim Pros are a great choice for an active lifestyle.
