This is a great option for those with too much clutter on their desk because while most wireless chargers have a sleek design that makes a nice addition to a surface, Kew Labs have hidden the charger making it entirely cable-free on the surface. Unlike the built-in option from Zens, you don’t have to cut a hole in your desk to make it work. Simply peel back the adhesive tape and stick it to the underside of your desk, you can even daisy-chain multiple chargers together. Finally, we were really impressed by the magnetic hold it was able to generate through our desk, even though you can’t see it!

Place your phone on the charger, watch for the LED indicator light to turn on, and you’re charging safely and quickly. Unlike several charging stations on our list, there’s an AC adaptor included in the box for convenience. Our only knock with this stand is that you can’t tilt the MagSafe pad like you can with the Twelve South HiRise 3 Deluxe.
- STM Goods ChargeTree Go (from AU$149.95): The best option on our list for travelling is the STM Goods ChargeTree Go. This charging station can replenish three devices at once, but it also folds flat to not take up too much space in your bag when you’re on the go. This is as simple as charging stands get, you don’t need a MagSafe-compatible phone and the charger works with all new Qi-enabled smartphone devices, not just iPhones. Power is only 10w vs. 15-20w available on most chargers on our list, but there’s no arguing with the simplicity of the design and the overall good build quality that’s typical of Belkin products. Once again, you’ll need to supply your AC adaptor.
- Satechi Aluminum 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand (from AU$99.99): Another great option for the design-conscience buyer is this wireless charging station from Satechi. It sits towards the bottom of our list because the 7.5w of supplied power is half that of the competitors listed above. That being said, the lower AirPods charger is solid with 5w of power. Overall, it’s a good-looking and well-made unit with a combination of solid plastics, weights, and aluminium on the stem.

There are two main fields of wireless charging that your phone will fall into either Qi or MagSafe charging. Qi is offered with most phones and is supported by all major phone brands, including Apple. That being said, if you’re an iPhone user, we recommend choosing a MagSafe charger as these are universal and can be used across a range of different chargers. Here’s everything you need to know:
Qi (pronounced ‘chee’): This is the charging technology offered by most phones. Built into the phone itself, Qi wireless chargers are more energy-efficient than standard charging methods. The Qi technology is also smaller, making for more compact chargers. While otherwise a perfectly simple and effective way of wirelessly charging your devices, Qi charging has the minor downside of having to be placed in a specific way on a charging station. Any misplacement or minor movement will cancel out the wireless charging.
MagSafe: This is Apple’s evolution of the Qi technology, originally debuting with their iPhone 12. What makes MagSafe different is the ring of magnets inside the phone and the compatible charging station, locking the two devices together in the necessary position to charge. Along with solving the Qi chargers one fault, the MagSafe chargers are often more powerful. Conveniently, an iPhone with MagSafe technology can still be charged on a Qi wireless charger, and vice versa.
