Daniel Ricciardo Will Join Red Bull in 2023 as Third Driver

It’s official folks, Australia’s favourite Formula 1 driver, Daniel Ricciardo, will be joining Red Bull in 2023 as the third ‘test’ driver. And while he’ll spend most of his time in the simulator, testing, and partaking in commercial activity, at least he’ll have a little more spare time to update his photography Instagram @daniel3.jpg.

Of course, when he’s not racing or photographing himself in the mirror, Danny Ric is smiling, making people laugh, and bringing positive energy to his garage. He’ll be an important piece to the Red Bull roster next season, and if Sergio Perez can’t pull his weight and help bring another constructors championship to the brand, he may even get a drive or two.

The news arrived after his departure from McLaren was made official during the mid-season break. And while he’s bounced around the grid, moving from Red Bull to Renault to McLaren, and now, back to Red Bull, he’s a proven race winner and all-around ‘good lockerroom guy’. In a statement to Formula 1, Dan said he’s excited about the opportunity.

“The smile says it all,” he said. I’m truly excited to be coming back home to Oracle Red Bull Racing as their Third Driver in 2023. I already have so many fond memories of my time here, but the welcome from Christian , Dr Marko and the entire team is something I’m sincerely appreciative of.”

“For me, the ability to contribute to and be surrounded by the best team in F1 is hugely appealing, whilst also giving me some time to recharge and refocus. I can’t wait to be with the team and support them with simulator work, testing sessions and commercial activities. Let’s go!”

Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, echoed the same sentiment.

“It is great to bring Daniel back into the Red Bull family. He has enormous talent and such a brilliant character; I know the whole factory is excited to be welcoming him home,” he said.
