Things, they are a-changin’. At least in the golf world they are. adidas has released a new line of golf footwear, CODECHAOS, that is redefining what a golf shoe is. “Golf continues to evolve and is in an exciting phase right now where the traditions of the game and how it can be played are all being challenged,” states adidas Golf Global Footwear Director Masun Denison. “We’re excited about this movement which has inspired us to break down barriers and create unique footwear and apparel for anyone that picks up a club. CODECHAOS is meant to challenge what a golf shoe can look and feel like while still delivering top-notch performance to all golfers whenever or wherever they play.”
The changes that adidas is making start from the ground up—literally. CODECHAOS shoes feature a proprietary traction system called “Twistgrip” that was developed based on the way golfers distribute and shift their weight throughout their swing. adidas used heat maps to evaluate swings, and then they placed traction where it was needed most. Even the lug shapes were revisited in order to find the best grip for the shoes. The result is a grip configuration that provides maximum traction and that has been proven out by grip-predictive analytics and real-life testing.
Above the traction, wearers of the shoes will find a full-length layer of BOOST cushioning for added comfort and energy return. A Torsion X stability bar adds even more support. The shoe’s upper is made of a multi-layer mesh that features a unique texture that enhances durability and breathability. Those layers are also protected by a waterproof film to keep your feet dry.
Stepping away from traditional colour schemes, CODECHAOS comes in vibrant colourways. Golfers can further express their style by picking up a pair of high-top models featuring Boa technology, which features a stretch-knit collar and slip-on construction. CODECHAOS also comes in a spikeless outsole model that is even lighter.
