It’s been a decade since watch website HODINKEE came out, and the Omega Speedmaster Limited Anniversary Edition marks the occasion well. The run will include only 500 pieces, with each watch featuring a hand-wound Omega caliber 1861 three-register chronograph movement. The 39.7 mm case is the original from the reference 2998. The dial and hands, however, are unique to this limited edition. The dial is a blue/grey combo, with pronounced minute scale, while the chronograph seconds hand is in a contrasting red. The hour markers are all luminous. Another unique feature to the watch is the red arrow hands for the hour and minute registers, and the blue and black seconds register, as well as the 30-second interval hand, which is a first for any Omega.
The bezel is a conservative black aluminum, another reference to the 1960s 2998. The watch comes with two straps—a grey NATO and a dark grey calfskin. The watch has a 48 hour power reserve, is water resistant up to 50 meters, and has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal casing.
As you might expect, with a limited edition watch celebrating an important milestone like a 10 year anniversary, you’ll be paying a premium to pick up one of these watch–USD$6,500 to be exact. But, as you might also expect, Omega will deliver with a watch that won’t just be a time keeper, but a family heirloom.
