Sitting down to brekky and cracking open a beer are two of life’s greatest pleasures, so why not combine the two for ultimate enjoyment? Heaps Normal has you covered – the brand’s new Coffee Run Stout is giving a whole new meaning to ‘breakfast beers’ – with no hangovers in sight – and we’re here for it.
Brewed in collaboration with Newcastle-based ‘bean queen’ Kristy ‘Kmac’ Mujana at Floozy Coffee Roasters, this non-alcoholic beer from Australia’s favourite indie non-alcoholic beer brand is something from your wildest dreams – an unlikely concoction of coffee, beer and pure thirst-quenching liquid goodness. The design of the can also pays homage to Kmac’s Newcastle roots.
“We’re stoked to launch this delicious new beer, infused with coffee roasted in Newy. The Coffee Run Stout is a light-hearted play on combining two of our favourite drinking occasions – late-night beers and early morning coffees. Let’s face it, sometimes these moments can bleed into one another. So we put them in a can,” Heaps Normal co-founder and CEO Andy Miller said.
If you’re wondering what to expect, the simple answer is that you’re in for a treat. The unique flavour experience features a roasted malt sweetness combined with the hoppy bitterness of a full-strength brew, topped off with flavours of Floozy’s pineapple, cherry and dulce de leche-forward Golden Hour bean blend.
It also works great as an alternative to your morning cup of joe if you’re looking to cut back on caffeine, with each can containing about one-fifth of the caffeine of a standard espresso. It can also serve as that extra pick-me-up for the days you’ve already managed to down four cups of coffee before midday (we’ve all been there.)
“Cold brew made from Floozy’s Golden Hour beans was just what this malty stout called for,” Heaps Normal production manager, Charlotte Richards explained. “We reckon we’ve created a perfectly normal drink for any time of the day, for any type of person who just needs a bloody delicious pep in their step.”
And to top it off, the launch of the Coffee Run Stout will be accompanied by a series of interviews with creatives from around Australia who are creating their own normal, including Kmac, Dash Rumble from Canberra’s Such and Such, the female-led team behind Footscray’s Migrant Coffee and Heaps Normal’s very own Charlotte Richards.
The new brew is fondly being dubbed the ‘all-day breakfast beer of champions’ – it’s the beer that gives you the agency to decide whatever you want it to be, whether that’s a morning brew or a nightcap. A four-pack of the Coffee Run Stout will set you back around AUD$16.99 and is available at select retailers, bottle shops and venues around Australia.
