New Nissan Patrol Revealed, Due in Australia Late 2026


The seventh-generation Nissan Patrol has been revealed in Abu Dhabi. Powered by a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine producing 425HP, it’s not due to arrive in Australia until late 2026. Still, all fingers point to this being a significant step up-market for the humble workhorse, and pricing will surely follow.

Right now, the most expensive new Nissan Patrol you can buy in Australia is the top-of-the-range Patrol Warrior specification, priced from $104,160 plus on-road costs.

However, we’d expect the new model to follow the LandCruiser’s lead, and we wouldn’t be surprised if pricing for the new Nissan Patrol landed in the $150,000 range before on-road costs. The most expensive Toyota LandCruiser 300 Sahara ZX is priced from AU$146,876 before on-road costs.

Local specification has not been confirmed, but we’ll likely get a mash-up of bits and pieces from the overseas models showcased at the vehicle’s launch.

The powerful 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo engine produces 425HP and 700Nm of torque, 9-speed transmission, NissanConnect 2.0, and twin 14.3-inch displays in front of the driver for a total screen diameter of 28.6 inches are all but confirmed for our market. Premium extras, such as the 12-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio system and segment-first Biometric Cooling technology, will be confirmed for our market in due course.

There are two engine options for the new Nissan Patrol, but the headlining act is the 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo engine that produces 425HP and 700Nm of torque and replaces the outgoing 5.6-litre, 298kW V8. This new engine increases power by 7%, torque by 25%, and fuel efficiency by 24%.

It’s also closely related to the engine in the Nissan GTR, with spokesman Antonio Lopez telling news.com.au that it’s the “brother or sister of the new Z engine.”

“We have things that are coming from the GT-R, including how we move oil from the turbocharger,” he continued, referencing the new scavenger oil pump for consistent lubrication on slopes and inclines.

There’s also a 3.8-litre naturally aspirated V6, which has not been confirmed for our market. It’s closely related to the engine in the Nissan Frontier and produces 316HP and 386Nm of torque in this application.

Ride comfort is taken care of by a new adaptive air suspension system “available” as standard. It’s unclear whether steel springs will be made available in our market, but we’d suspect any entry-level model grades to at least get the option for upgradeable springs and dampers.

That said, if you spend more time on-road than off-road, the new suspension system with e-damper technology is the choice.

This new suspension system automatically adjusts the damper settings according to the driving conditions, similar to systems on other luxury SUVs like the Range Rover Sport. It also combines with the six drive modes: standard, sand, rock, mud, eco, and sport.

Step inside, and this is a level-up from all the previous-generation Nissan Patrol. Massage seats with NASA-inspired spinal support technology, trim detailing inspired by traditional Japanese woodcraft, Kumiko, and dual 12.8-inch screens for rear passengers that join the twin 14.3-inch displays in front of the driver.

These front infotainment screens have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but can also be logged into Google for in-built connections to Google Maps, etc., similar to an Android Automotive-based system in the Polestar 2. There’s also the ability to control most of the cars functions through a smartphone app.

Of course, you get plenty of ambient lighting (customisable in 64 colours) and a 12-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio system with DJX 3D Surround. Finally, the Patrol debuts a segment-first Biometric Cooling technology that uses built-in infrared sensors to detect the body temperature of front and second-row passengers and automatically adjusts airflow settings accordingly.

Details for the new Nissan Patrol will arrive for the Australian market in due course.

The only thing we know for sure is that, according to Nissan, it will tow more than the 2,000kg figure confirmed for the Middle East market. How much? We’re not sure, but as others have said, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it edge closer to the 3,855kg (8,500 lbs) seen in the Infiniti QX80 in the USA. Surely, 3.5-tonne towing is on the cards for Australia.
